Abbottstown, PA, March 4, 2000 - Cris Eash was injured in the third heat race at Lincoln Speedway this afternoon.

Eash looked under Kasey Kahne as the pair raced for second place coming out of turn four. Kahne's car got out of shape, suddenly gained traction and lurched sideways into Eash, sending the No. 17e into a violent series of flips down the front straight. Eash's car landed upside down, coming to rest against the inside guardrail directly opposite the flagstand.

With the car locked in gear and the engine running, safety crews approached the car cautiously since the rear wheels continued to spin wildly. Several drivers, who ran from the pit area, reached the car and attempted to remove the crumpled top wing as the engine shut down.

When safety crews arrived at the scene, Eash was awake and alert, reporting a problem with his leg.

Eash was taken to an area hospital where he was found to have severed tendons above and below the knee on his left leg.

There was no word on the duration of Eash's recovery period, or if he would miss next week's races. Eash's wife, who called the track to report her husband's conditon, noted that Eash, always the consumate racer, had mentioned it was only his braking leg and he still had a good leg to work the throttle.
