Sooner State Hosts Rounds Three and Four of COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek
TULSA, Okla. (June 5, 2005) -- Following a day of rest on Sunday, the 13th Annual COMP Cams American Sprint Car Series Speedweek fires back into action with a pair of Oklahoma ovals on Monday and Tuesday night after contesting the opening two rounds of Speedweek on a pair of Memphis-area quarter-mile bullrings.
The stars of the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores take to the high-banked, 3/8-mile Tri-State Speedway at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night then move on to Tulsa Speedway's 3/8-mile clay oval at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
The balance of the 13th Annual COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek slate includes Devil' s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX, on Thursday night, 67 Texarkana Speedway on Friday night and Little Rock's I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.
Defending O'Reilly ASCS National champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, kicked off Speedweek action by topping Friday night's 30-lap feature at Memphis Motorsports Park, while Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart held off Eddie Gallagher to top Saturday night's go at Riverside Speedway in West Memphis, AR.
Stewart enters Monday night's action at Tri-State Speedway atop Speedweek points after finishes of third and first in the opening two rounds, with Wright and Gallagher tied for second, just two points off Stewart's pace. Defending COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek champion Tim Crawley of Mabelvale, AR, is just ten points off the lead pace in fourth after finishes of fifth and third, with Oregon' s Roger Crockett just two more points back in fifth after a pair of top-five runs.
Jan Howard (Byhalia, MS), California transplant Steven Tiner (Mabelvale, AR), Tony Bruce, Jr. (Liberal, KS), Dale Howard (Byhalia, MS) and Toby Brown (Carthage, MO) round out the current top ten in ASCS Speedweek points.
Eighteen drivers remain in the running for a set of Brodix ASCS spec heads to be awarded upon the completion of Speedweek. A set of heads will be awarded next Saturday night to one of the drivers that competes in all seven COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek events, with the winner determined via a draw. In addition to the current top ten, other drivers that are eligible following the opening two rounds are Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX), A.G. Rains (West Memphis, AR), Jake Martens (Fairview, OK), Jim Bowden (Hernando, MS), Jimmy Taylor (Oklahoma City, OK), Henry Gustavus (Marion, AR), Lee Sowell (Nesbit, MS) and Chad Jones (Memphis, TN).
COMP Cams ASCS Speedweek rounds three and four at Pocola and Tulsa will be bolstered by the likes of Terry McCarl, Danny Wood, Louisiana native Jason Johnson, North Dakota's Natalie Sather, Razorback Sean Walden, Minnesota's Dustin Lindquist, Kansas Jason Martin and a number of American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region competitors.
