Dupuy Leads ASCS Coastal Region into Mississippi Double
TULSA, Okla. (August 21, 2007) -- With Amite, Louisiana's Michael Dupuy closing in on the inaugural American Sprint Car Series Coastal Region championship, the series is set for a pair of events atop two Mississippi dirt ovals this weekend.
On Friday night, the ASCS Coastal Region makes its debut atop the high-banked, 0x00bc-mile Simpson County Motorsports Park clay oval in Mendenhall, MS. Then on Saturday night, it's on to the high-banked, 3/8-mile Pike County Speedway dirt oval in Magnolia, MS, for a $2,000 to win event.
Dupuy has posted four feature wins through the opening ten events of the season to amass a 64-point lead over Michael Herrington of Gonzales, LA, in the championship points chase. Including this weekend's double, there are seven events remaining on the 2007 slate.
Robert Casada of Petal, MS, enters the weekend ranked third, with Todd Fayard of Saucier, MS, and Shane Morgan of Biloxi, MS, rounding out the current top five. Morgan topped the series most recent event at Southern Speedway in Milton, FL, on July 21.
The balance of the current top ten includes Lane Whittington (Denham Springs, LA), Chris Sweeney (Channelview, TX), Timmy Thrash (Gulfport, MS), Hunter Phillips (Gulfport, MS) and Terry Vidrine (Slaughter, LA).
Friday's action at Simpson County Motorsports Park goes green at 7:00 p.m., with Saturday's hot laps at Pike County Speedway at 7:00 p.m. with racing to fire off at 8:00 p.m.
Simpson County Motorsports Park is located north of Mendenhall, MS on US 49, then 1.2 miles west on SR 13 to Water Park exit, then 1.5 miles north on Old US 49, then 2.6 miles west on Jupiter Road, then 0.4 miles south on Jeff Alexander Road. The ASCS Coastal Region is set to contest 17 events at ten different tracks throughout Mississippi and the surrounding area including portions of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
