ASCS REGIONAL SHOWDOWN AT MAGNOLIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY
TULSA, Okla. (August 27, 2007) -- Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, will be the site of an American Sprint Car Series Regional showdown on Sunday night, as the ASCS Coastal and Rebel Regions clash atop the semi-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval.
Louisiana's Michael Dupuy and Florida's T.J. Winegardner lead their respective series into the Sunday night showdown.
With a dozen events in the books, Dupuy of Amite, LA, holds a 78-point lead over Michael Herrington of Gonzales, LA, in the inaugural ASCS Coastal Region championship points race, with Robert Casada (Petal, MS), Todd Fayard (Saucier, MS) and Shane Morgan (Biloxi, MS) rounding out the current top five.
In the initial ASCS Rebel Region championship chase, Winegardner holds a slim 14-point lead over Brian Thomas of Pendergrass, GA, with Matt Linder (Hoschton, GA), Tyler Godwin (Lutz, FL) and Kenny Adams (Malabar, FL) rounding out the current top five.
Eight different drivers have scored at least on ASCS Coastal Region victory this year, with Dupuy setting the standard thus far with four victories. Jason Johnson has posted a pair of Coastal Region wins, with single wins claimed by Shane Morgan, Lane Whittington, Travis Rilat, Derek Hagar, Marshall Skinner and Gary Wright.
Six different drivers have reached ASCS Rebel Region victory lane in seven events thus far in 2007, with Adams the only driver to post multiple wins. Drivers posting one win apiece include Matt Tiffany, Michael Dupuy, Wade Oliver, Marshall Skinner and Lee Sowell.
Sunday night's ASCS Coastal vs. Rebel Region card at Magnolia Motor Speedway goes green at 7:30 p.m.
