ASCS Showdown Saturday at Deep South Speedway
TULSA, Okla. (February 4, 2008) -- Mardi Gras revelers can wrap up the week's festivities with an intense night of sprint car racing action this Saturday when the American Sprint Car Series takes to the high banks of Deep South Speedway in Loxley, AL.
The ASCS Coastal and Rebel Regions square off atop the 4/10-mile clay oval for a $3,000-to-win, $300-to-start feature event that headlines Deep South Speedway's Second Annual Mardi Gras Bash.
Marshall Skinner of West Memphis, AR, is the defending race winner, as he fought off Wayne Johnson and Terry Gray to win last year's edition of the Mardi Gras Bash when the ASCS made its debut appearance at Deep South Speedway.
Other ASCS winners at Deep South Speedway in 2007 included Louisiana's Lane Whittington, who scored a Coastal Region win on June 30, and Jason Johnson, who topped a Coastal vs. Rebel Regional Showdown on September 8. Johnson, who topped this past weekend's O'Reilly ASCoT National series "King of the 360's" Nationals at Tampa's East Bay Raceway Park, may very well be among this Saturday night's contenders if car owner Marvin Pearson has the Eunice, Louisiana, racer's Regional ride ready to roll.
Michael Dupuy of Amite, LA, went on to win the inaugural ASCS Coastal Region championship in 2007, while Pierson, FL, racer T.J. Winegardner captured the inaugural ASCS Rebel Region title.
A stout field of entries will battle it out for the $3,000 winner's share Saturday night at Deep South Speedway, which will present an upgraded racing surface with new clay added over the off season.
The ASCS Coastal Region, which sanctions events primarily in Mississippi and the surrounding states, currently has a dozen events at eight different tracks on the 2008 slate with more to be added.
The ASCS Rebel Region, sanctioning events primarily in Georgia and the surrounding states, currently has 16 events at a dozen different tracks on the 2008 slate with additional events in the works.
Deep South Speedway is located in Loxley, AL, off I-10 Exit 44, then four miles north on SR 59, then 0x00be-miles west. For more information contact the track at 251-964-6953. Hot laps are scheduled to get under way at 5:00 p.m., with racing action to follow.
The 2008 season marks the 17th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
