Sprint Bandits & ASCS Championships on the Line at Devil's Bowl in October
TULSA, Okla. (September 28, 2004) 0x2022 October 16 will be "Championship Saturday Night" at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX, as the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits inaugural champion will be determined along with the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South and Sooner Regional champions.
The O'Reilly Sprint Bandits series will put the wraps on its inaugural season of 410-ci racing action, with Bixby, Oklahoma's Shane Stewart entering the finale 38 points ahead of Forney, TX, shoe Travis Rilat. Stewart can clinch the series crown by finishing 18th or better in the October 16 feature.
Also on the October 16 card will be the ASCS Sooner vs. Gulf South Regional Shootout. Already postponed by rain on two occasions, the event will mark the season finale for both hotly contested Regional Sprint Car tours. Oklahoma City's Andy Shouse holds a slim eight-point lead over Ft. Worth's Kevin Ramey in American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region points, while Jerry Bell of Rowlett, TX, is just 14 points ahead of Humble, TX, driver Chris Sweeney and 22 markers ahead of Texas City, TX, shoe Greg Rilat in the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region points chase.
The Devil's Bowl Speedway ASCS Sooner vs. Gulf South Region Shootout is the only remaining event on the ASCS Sooner Region schedule, while the Gulf South Region has remaining events at Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA, on October 9 and at Waco's Heart O' Texas Speedway on October 15 in addition to the Regional Shootout.
A handful of drivers are eligible to pull double-duty on the October 16 Devil's Bowl Speedway card, including Tony Bruce, Jr., Danny Jennings, Foster Landon, Jason Martin and Nick Smith, each of whom have competed on a significant portion of both the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits and ASCS Sooner Regional tours.
All other drivers will opt to compete in either the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits portion of the October 16 Devil's Bowl card or the ASCS Sooner vs. Gulf South Regional Shootout.
A stout field of entries is expected for both portions of the October 16 Sprint Car spectacular at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX.
That won't be the end of the season's Sprint Car action at Devil's Bowl Speedway either, as the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and Classic Trailers concludes its 2004 season by headlining the 31st Annual Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals on Friday and Saturday, October 22-23.
Devil's Bowl Speedway is located six miles east of Dallas' I-635 on US 80, then three miles south on Lawson Road. For more information, contact the track at 972-222-2421.
