Cause of death ruled as 'massive blunt trauma' in Kevin Ward Jr. tragedy

Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero held another press conference today.

The Ontario County sheriff's department held another press conference at 5pm est. today. In the presser, they announced that Kevin Ward. Jr. died of 'massive blunt trauma.' No other information regarding his injuries will be released at this time.

Sheriff Povero went on to say that the investigation is progressing well and that they are evaluating evidence and reviewing two videos. One of the videos has not mad its way out to the public and shows a different angle, according to the Sheriff.

He reiterated that at this time, "no facts exist that support any criminal behavior or conduct' on the part of Tony Stewart. Povero would go on to clarify that this is still an open investigation and that they have no set timeline, saying, "What I said is not indicitive that this is over and that conclusions have been made." Povero wants to make sure that they 'leave no stone unturned' before closing the case.

They also interviewed the driver of the No. 45 car that was directly in front of Stewart at the time of the incident, driven by Chuck Hebing. The Sheriff's department is still looking for more witnesses, photos, and perhaps even video that would assist in the investigation.

They are in contact with Stewart's representatives and will interview him further if needed. The DA has requested that the Sheriff not discuss the toxicology report at this time.
