Rookie Cameron Dodson Wins Second Straight
Captures 20 Lap Sprint Car A-Main at Mercer Raceway Park

Greenfield, IN ~ May 23, 2004 ~ Fresh off his first career Sprint Car win last Sunday night (May 16th) in the debut of the Mid-American Sprint Series at Indiana's Tri-State Speedway, Cameron Dodson backed up his performance with an impressive run to hold off Mercer Raceway Park former champion, Jamie Smith, to win the 20-lap Luxaire Heating & Cooling event for 410 Winged Sprint Cars on Saturday night.

"That was an excellent race," exclaimed the pumped Dodson from the Winner's Circle. "There's a lot of good competition. I saw the nose of somebody coming there on the last lap and I went low to try to get under the lapped car. I was getting nervous but I just had to go for it. The Hoosier Tires came in great. Troy (Hollingsworth, crew chief) put an awesome setup under my Maxim chassis. Ryan (Langston, crewman) made sure the car was set and ready to go from top to bottom. My parents, and I thank the fans for coming out- we couldn't do it without them. We just try to put on a great show."

Starting in fifth, inside row three, Dodson got a great start and was in second by the end of lap one. The Memphis, TN native ran down early leader Chad Levingston on lap four and made his move on lap five in slower traffic to put the #37 on the point. A three-car race ensued with Levingston and Arnie Kent chasing young Dodson for the lead through traffic while Smith was quickly but quietly working his way toward the front. A restart on lap 15 gave Smith the opening he needed to move to second.

With only five laps remaining, Dodson defended his lead like a savvy, seasoned veteran. As the pair roared through turns one and two on the 3/8-mile clay oval, Smith tried to get his nose under Dodson. Dodson denied Smith the pass with a great jump off the banking heading down the backstretch. The Greenfield, IN resident used a lapped car to split he and Smith as they headed out of turn four for the checkered. With the capacity crowd on their feet, Dodson posted his second career winged sprint car victory in as many weeks.

The following night, Sunday, May 23rd, the Joie of Seating, Penske Shocks, Hoosier Tire, Simpson Racing Products, Weld Racing #37 team headed for Tri-City Speedway, Franklin, PA for the Super Sprint competition. Despite a spin on lap three of the 20-lap race, the future motorsports superstar recovered to race his way back through the field to finish fourth at the checkered flag.

"It is all part of the process that helps me to improve every race I run," said Dodson. "My parents told me the crowd really got excited watching me work my way back toward the front. It is because of the fans we get to race so I am glad they had a great time. There are some very good driver's on these Pennsylvania tracks so the more opportunity I have to race with them, the more experience I gain. I just want to race as much as I can. Its fun and I love it."
