KINSER BATTLE TO BE REJOINED AT HOMETOWN OVAL
BLOOMINGTON, IN (July 8, 1998) - With a third place finish at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, last night, Steve Kinser regained the point lead of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws tour. Kinser's cousin, Mark was running a strong second place when he dropped out with ignition problems. With the second consecutive race that Mark and Karl Kinser failed to finish, they dropped to fourth in the lucrative Outlaw point championship. The Pennzoil World Of Outlaws will be in action at Bloomington Speedway on Wednesday, July 15, as they make up the event rained-out in June. =20
Last year's Outlaw point titlist, Sammy Swindell is only 18 points behind Steve Kinser, with Stevie Smith just three points further back. Mark's deficit is scant 29 points from the lead. The 1998 racing season has been the closest in many years for the Outlaws, as four of the top five in A-main wins are also the top four in the points. Smith won his eighth A-main at Husets leading the pack, while Mark Kinser, Swindell and Jac Haudenschild have five A wins each, and Steve has three.
As a win at Bloomington Speedway's event will be critical to the point championship, the $7,000 first prize promises to be highly contested. Steve Kinser holds the most Outlaw wins at Bloomington (7), but none since 1992. Sammy Swindell has won three features at Bloomington, and Stevie Smith twice. But Mark Kinser has yet to win an Outlaw's feature at Bloomington. Smith also owns Bloomington's track record with a lap at 9.780, the quickest lap time on the outlaw trail.
For returning fans, ticket stubs from Bloomington's rained-out June 12 Pennzoil World of Outlaws event will be honored. General admission tickets are available for $25. Youths, ages 12 and under, will be charged $5. Pit admission is $30. Gates will open at 4 pm. Hot laps and qualifying will be at 6:30 with racing at 7:45. Bloomington's open wheel modified racing division will also be in action on Wednesday.
In related news, the Pennzoil World Of Outlaw's 1997 Rookie of the Year, South Dakota's Donnie Schatz, will race a commemorative sprint car at Bloomington. Schatz will drive a specially painted racer to celebrate both the 4th of July and the 100th Anniversary of Trucking in America. Schatz is sponsored on the Pennzoil World of Outlaws tour by Blue Beacon Truck Washes, Schatz Crossroads Truckstops and Cafe, Bellerud Transport and Petreo Shopping Centers, all a part of the 100 year celebration.
This Friday, July 10th, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws event will be televised live. The Outlaws are in action from West Fargo, ND's, Red River Valley Speedway, on The Nashville Network.
