KISS Series visits Bloomington Speedway on May 17
BLOOMINGTON, IN (May 5, 2002) - The KISS (King of Indiana Sprint Series) is in its second year. Although the series was scheduled to compete at Bloomington Speedway last season; but it fell victim to the weatherman. Since there was no hole in our schedule in which to insert it, we had to cancel it. The series was very successful last year; and we look forward to being a part of it this season.
Last year's KISS champion, Dick Gaines II, is a regular competitor at Bloomington Speedway; and he is certainly a threat to win it again. However, based on how the season is going now, the favorite to win the series would have to be defending Bloomington Speedway champion Kevin Thomas. He has competed six times this so far this season and has four wins and two seconds.
The series begins at Gas City I-69 speedway on June 10. From Bloomington Speedway the series will go to Paragon Speedway (June 1), Lincoln Park Speedway at Putnamville (June 15), the Terre Haute Action Track (June 18), and conclude at Kokomo Speedway (July 14). Any of these races should be worth the trip.
In addition to a huge field of Sprint Cars, the O'Neal Wood Products UMP Open Wheel Modifieds and Tire and Wheel Center Indiana Super Stocks will be in competition. These racers will probably also turn out in huge numbers as there will be an additional $100 added to the winner's purse.
Pit gates will open at 4:30 PM, the grandstand gates will open at 5:30 PM, hot laps will start at 6:30 PM, and racing will begin at 7:30 PM. General admission is $15 for this special event; and pit admission is $25. There will be no entry fee for this special show. Overnight camping is permitted. Coolers are allowed; but glass containers are prohibited.
