Another Wet Friday Night
Sheldon Kinser Memoial Rained Out
BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 17, 2001) - If anyone has any pull with Mother Nature, give Mike Miles a call. We have now lost four shows to the weatherman. Enough I enough. The forecast looked bad all week; but the rains didn't come Thursday night as predicted; and we thought that we might luck out and get the show in. However, near mid-day on Friday the rains hit. It rained hard for a while; and slacked off. Mike and his crew immediately began working on the standing water hoping that the sun wouldcome out and lend him a hand in drying the track and pits enough for competition. Unfortunately, the sun stayed hidden; and the drizzle continued. It simply was not going to dry enough for competition. We hadno choice but to declare a rain-out.
It there is any show that we absolutely hate to cancel, it is the Sheldon Kinser Memorial. When the checkered flag falls on this race each year, we at Bloomington Speedway immediately begin planning next year's race. Eleanor Vogler begins lining up lap size sponsors; and our competitors begin figuring how they will do it differently next year. Few short track races possess the history and enthusiasm of this race.
Mike Miles is trying to find a date to reschedule the Sheldon Kinser Memorial for later in the season. Rescheduling a race of this magnitudeis a chess game of tremendous proportions. We have to avoid nights when USAC is running and nights when special show are being conducted at othertracks. It just wouldn't be the Sheldon Kinser Memorial without the bestof the best in competition. The one thing that you can count on is that if there is any way to rescedule the event, Mike Miles will get it rescheduled.
