BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 19, 2000) - July 7 is Harrell Pipe and Supply night. They will be sponsoring the night and taking part in the evening's activities. Support of fine sponsors like this are very helpful to us in providing a quality racing program to the fans at an affordable price. A family of two adults and two children can get a first class evening of racing entertainment for less than the cost of a carton of cigarettes.
After a week's absence, the Pennzoil Cup Non Winged Sprint Cars will return to Bloomington Speedway where they all know that they have a fair shot at finding victory lane. Among those intrepid sprint pilots expected to return is points leader Kevin Briscoe who has already won three Pennzoil Cup Sprint Car features this season. Briscoe represented Bloomington Speedway well a couple of weeks ago when he competed in the Terre Haute National Open at the Terre Haute Action Track. The event, sanctioned by both USAC and SCRA, featured the best non winged sprint car racers in the country. Briscoe probably would have had quick time but for a push truck that inadvertently aborted his second qualifying lap. His first lap was sixth quick in a very tough field. He went on to lead most of the feature; and a bad break in lapped traffic cost him the win. He ended up second to Richard Griffin of California in the preliminary feature.
Will July 7 be the night that one of the intrepid sprint car racers from the first two rows voluntarily start on the tail to try to earn the $1500 from Ed Evans Antique Auto and Race Car Museum. Up until now no driver has been willing to try it. While coming from the back to win is certainly possible at Bloomington Speedway, the level of the competition makes it a very tough thing to do. The competition also tends to keep the points race very tight. This means that most of the regular Bloomington Speedway sprint drivers don't want to risk a bad finish; because of the points that a bad finish would cost them.
The Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks and the O'Neal Wood Products Open Wheel Modifieds will be back in competition. Those who have been running well will be intent on augmenting their position in the points races; and those who haven't been running so well will be trying to make up ground.
General Electric employees will introduced to the exciting racing action at Bloomington Speedway at bargain price on July 7. They will be admitted to the grandstand at half price simply by showing their GE I.D. card. This will offer them the opportunity to enjoy an evening of the best racing entertainment with their co-workers at a bargain price.
The July 7 program will also be a real bargain for HARF and C.A.R. Fan Clubs members. They will be admitted to the Bloomington Speedway grandstand for half price simply by showing their current membership card. These people spend a lot of time and money attending races; and it is a pleasure to give them a little something back. What could be better for a hard core race fan than a night of wheel to wheel racing. Most of these people know that the well-prepared Bloomington Speedway always provides great competition. The famous red clay lets a driver come from the back of the pack to challenge for the win. A front row starting position is no "gimme" at Bloomington.
The final event of the evening will a ladies Powder Puff race. If there are enough entries they will run one for the super stocks and one for the modifieds. If the number of entries is modest, they'll all run together. There has been considerable speculation about whether or not Diane Grubb would be permitted to run in the powder puff race. Some have suggested that her husband or "significant other" should be permitted to compete in it.
Grandstand admission for this event is only $10 and pit admission is $20. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands open at 5:30. Hot laps are at 6:30; and racing starts at 7:30. Overnight camping is permitted. END
