BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 10, 2001) - No place is more appropriate for a memorial to Sheldon Kinser than the famous red clay oval that is Bloomington Speedway. Most fans remember Sheldon for the daring that he displayed on race tracks from coast to coast. He raced on tracks from quarter mile bull rings in sprints and midgets to mile dirt ovals in USACchamp dirt cars (now Silver Bullet) to the superspeedways where he competed with the best in champ cars. However, his toughest race, the one he lost, was with cancer. But he fought that one the hardest of all. He once said, "It would be easy to give up; but I'm going through all of this for my kids. I'm going to stay around as long as possible for them." Sheldon didn't just sit at home to fight the battle in solitude either. He continued to race, often tying a bandanna around his throat to keep most of the dirt out of the hole there. He was a tough as nails competitor - onewho had earned the respect of all who raced against him.

Sheldon Kinser was one of the greatest sprint car racers ever. Sheldon was a three time USAC sprint car champion and won 37 USAC sprint car feature events. This places him sixth on the all time list for USAC. The Sheldon Kinser Memorial is an event worthy of such a great racer. This race pays $3,000 to win plus lap prize money courtesy of Eleanor Vogler and the Rich Vogler Scholarship Fund. This event always pulls sprint cars from all over. Since USAC isn't running on the 15th many oftheir regular competitors should be on hand as well.

Kevin Thomas has won the Sheldon Kinser Memorial four times; and you can bet that he'll be here on June 15 trying for number 5. He finished second last year; but he plans to win it again this year. However, Kevin Briscoe, the 2000 Sheldon Kinser Memorial winner, will almost certainly be here too.

And, don't think that it will come down to just these two either. JasonKnoke will certainly be at Bloomington Speedway with the Law Brothers sprinter; and there are a lot of the USAC regulars stand a good chance aswell. Whoever winds up in victory lane, the race to the checkered flags is bound to be exciting. Don't miss the best in sprint car competition.

In addition to the non winged sprints, the O'Neal Wood Products open wheel modifieds and the Tire & Wheel Centers super stocks will also be in competition that night. There will be extra money up for grabs for theseguys too in this special show.

As an added treat for the race fans on this special night will be the Midwest Oldtimers Vintage Race Car Club with several of their vintage race cars including one of Sheldon's championship cars. The cars will be displayed courtesy of Ed Evans Antique Auto & Race Car Museum in Bedford. These guys spend a lot of time and money on their cars. Some of them will make a couple of laps around the famous red clay; and others will simply be displayed; but you will certainly enjoy all of them.

Don't miss this great race. General Admission is only $15 While pit admission is $25. Kids 12 and under are admitted to the grandstand free with a paying adult. Parking and overnight camping are free. Coolers are allowed but glass containers are prohibited.

Pit gates open at 4:30 PM; and the grandstand opens at 5:30 PM. Hot Lapsbegin at 6:30 PM; and racing begins at 7:30 PM. BE THERE!
