BLOOMINGTON, IN (August 23, 2003) - After rain washed out our last attempt to get a GLOSS winged sprint car race in the books, Mike Miles was down to this being his last shot at winged racing for the season. While we are obviously partial to non winged sprint car racing, it's nice to run a couple of winged shows for our fans who like them.

However, the best part of running winged shows is that we get a chance to see some of our local favorites run. Kraig and Kelly Kinser only run with wings; and it is great to give them the opportunity to run for their Bloomington Speedway fans. Kraig came back from Kansas to run at Bloomington Speedway; and Kelly passed on some All Star shows to run with us.

The evening was just a little more festive for the Kinser clan; because their patriarch, Bob Kinser, was able to spend the evening in the pits with his grandson. It put a nice finishing touch on Bob's birthday celebration from the day before.

When you add Kraig, Kelly, and Kevin "Pup" Huntley to the strong field of GLOSS competitors, and awesome show almost has to result.

GLOSS WINGED SPRINT CARS -

Kevin Huntley seldom gets the opportunity to compete on the red clay of Bloomington Speedway; because his regular rides mostly come equipped with wings. However, since Kevin Briscoe has been spending a lot of time driving Danny Roberts' car, the familiar white number five has been left vacant. And, since Dick Briscoe can stand only so many off nights, he has been able to put Huntley in the car on occasion; and they have almost always been successful.

Huntley had originally planned to run the U2 car at Bloomington Speedway this week; but, when Briscoe asked him to drive the white # 5, he jumped at the opportunity. After all, no other car has won as many Bloomington Speedway features recently. However, it was certainly not going to be an easy task. In addition to the strong GLOSS regulars like Danny Smith, Brandon Wimmer, and Chad Blonde,. he would also have to take on Kraig Kinser in his potent World of Outlaws car and Kelly Kinser who is always a threat to win when he pulls onto the track.

When the green flag dropped to start the feature event, 16 year old Kaley Gharst got crossed up and collected. Nick Naber, David Waltman, Tim Engler, and Kraig Kinser. in the process. Both Engler and Gharst were done for the evening. Kraig made it out of the work area in time to restart; but his car had apparently suffered damage that Randy and Gary were unable to get repaired. After a couple of laps Kraig pulled into the infield - his night was over.

Craig Keel grabbed the lead from his starting position on the pole; but, in a matter of a few laps, Danny Smith had charged into the lead. However, Huntley was coming hard. Lap after lap Huntley and Smith battled for the lead. In the closing laps Huntley began to put some space between the Briscoe machine and Smith. At that point Smith had to begin to worry about Kelly Kinser. Smith was able to hold onto second place finish ahead of Kelly Kinser, Keel, Todd Kelley, Brandon Wimmer, Paul May, Dick Gaines II, Chad Blonde, and Mark Clark.

In preliminary action, Kelly, Keel, Smith and Wimmer won the heat races while Keel took the dash. Blonde prevailed in the "B" feature:

O'NEAL WOOD PRODUCTS MODIFIEDS -

The O'Neal Wood Products modifieds had easily the tightest points battle going into last night's competition. Shelby Miles and Jeff Bland, Jr. were tied for the lead and Clint DeMoss was only one point back. Miles caught a break early in the evening when Bland forgot to return to the scales after transferring to the feature event. This miscue disqualified his transfer; and, instead of starting near the front of the feature, he would have to attempt to make the feature from the back of the "B" feature.

As the "B" feature got under way, Greg Deckard got tangled up with some other cars and flipped on the backstretch. Even though only seven green flag laps would be run before time ran out and the race declared complete, Bland would earn a transfer to the feature with a second place finish in the "B". Bland would still have to start at the back of the feature; but he was in the show.

As the green flag waved to begin the feature, Richie Lex and Shelby Miles picked up on the battle that had begun in the dash. However, Matt Boknecht was coming fast; and Lee Hobbs wasn't fan behind. On the tenth circuit Boknecht took over second place from Lex; and, a lap later, he moved into the lead. However, Miles would not be left behind. He would have to settle for second; but that should put him alone atop the O'Neal Wood Products points standings since the other front runners finished further back. Hobbs came home third trailed by Brady Short, Lex, J.P. Hume, Clint DeMoss, Bland, Cramer, and Rodney Reynolds, Jr.

Bland made an impressive run in the feature driving from the tail to finish eighth. With only one more points race to run, Jeff will have to be not only good but lucky to win the championship. However, it will be possible. Had he missed last night's feature it would have been virtually impossible.

In preliminary modified action J.P. Karpowicz, Miles, Lex, and Cramer won the heat races while Lex took the dash. Brady Short won the "B" feature.

TIRE & WHEEL CENTER SUPER STOCKS -

In the Tire & Wheel Center super stock division, Jay Deckard showed up with a new car; and it was plenty potent. He won his heat and the dash. He then proceeded to lead the feature event flag to flag. Tom Plotz of Indianapolis stayed with Deckard during the early going; but Deckard was eventually able to put some daylight between his car and Plotz's. Lee Hobbs managed to get around Plotz on the 18th circuit; but Plotz kept him in range and held on to finish third - his best ever performance on the red clay. Danny Harris came home fourth trailed by Greg Kendall, Mel Bigham, Randy Howe, Mickey Hines, Ralph Groomer, and Jack Frye.

In preliminary Tire & Wheel Center Super Stock action, Chris Hillman, Deckard, and Steve Bowlen won the heats while Greg Amick took the "B" feature.
