BLOOMINGTON, IN (July 11, 2003) - Tonight was to have been Mike & Judy Miles' thank you to the competitors and, indirectly to the fans, The prizes were increased the points were doubled, and the fans were going to get a great show.

In qualifications, the first 21 sprint cars covered only half a second from fast quailifier Derek Scheffel at 11.494 seconds to 21st fastest Mike Hunnicutt at 11.994. It promised to be a night of very close competition with a lot on the line. With double points up for grabs and Derek Scheffel with fast time the points race could have tightened up. But Mother Nature threw a monkey wrench into the works again. The rain began to fall just before the fourth sprint heat rolled onto the track. The rain was light at first; but, at that point in the action, you lose the track in a hurry.

Mike Miles, on the advice of Mrs. Miles, reluctantly declared the show to be rained out. With the track already gone and more rain promised there was obviously no way that we could get the show in. Before the haulers were out of the pits all doubt was removed by very heavy rain.

The three heats that were run went to Dick Gaines II, Jerry Coons, Jr., and Derek Davidson. However, all those wins were good for were bragging rights. Everything else was washed away.

However, Mike and Judy had planned this 80th Anniversary Racers' Night for a year; and they were not about to let it be washed away. Racers' Night has been rescheduled for August 1. Mark that date on your calendar now. It promised to be a great show.

Those fans and competitors who have rain checks from tonight's show can turn them in for full credit on admission at any of the next three shows. They can be used for admission to our Indiana Sprint Week show by paying the difference in the admission price.
