HEAVY RAIN KNOCKS-OUT BIG DIAMOND SPRINT SPEEDWEEK SHOW, STORM CLEARS WEATHER FOR REMAINING SERIES SCHEDULE Apparently it does not matter to Mother Nature if the racing is on Friday or Sunday or Tuesday at Big Diamond Raceway. The rain also does not seem to discriminate against either stock car or sprint car racing. Heavy rain hit Big Diamond Raceway as afternoon turned to evening on Tuesday (June 30) forcing the promotional team to cancel the evening's scheduled Keystone Pretzels Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek event at the track. To date Big Diamond Raceway has lost nine of the season's first fifteen events to the rain. Two of the rain-outs were Sunday afternoons while six were Friday nights and now one fell victim on a Tuesday night. Although the sprint show can not be rescheduled as part of the PA Sprint Speedweek schedule, the promotional team of Fritz Roehrig, JoAnn Roehrig, Alan Kreitzer and Jeff Gromis are talking to several area speedways and a sanctioning body to look for an open date for the sprints to return to Big Diamond this year. That date will be announced in the near future. In the meantime, Big Diamond Raceway returns to action this Friday night for the Georgie Stevenson Memorial featuring two, 20-lap feature events for the NASCAR Modifieds and a non-qualifiers' B-Main. The NASCAR Sportsman, ProTrucks and Roadrunners will also be on the card. For information call (717) 544-6434.
