On Tuesday night, June 27, at 7:30 Keystone Pretzels presents Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek at Big Diamond Raceway. The powerful Super Sprints make their return to Big Diamond for the third stop of Speedweek and only their third stop ever in Schuylkill County. The Sportsman Stock cars will see action on the Tuesday card. Several invaders expected to participate in this non-NASCAR event to challenge current Big Diamond Sportsman point leader Gary Hager of Stewartsville, NJ. The event is a qualifier for the Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championships at Five Mile Point in Binghampton, NY later this year. In addition to the involvement of series sponsor Keystone Pretzels of Lancaster County in the star-studded super sprint car event, Alexander Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac/GMC of Sunbury and Middleswarth Potato Chips will also be involved in the Big Diamond card. The Alexander dealership will sponsor a heat winners' cash dash while Middleswarth will be giving out bags of Middleswarth Potato Chips to the first 500 fans courtesy of their sprint car drivers Keith Kauffman and Todd Hestor who will be in action. The York-based Apple Motorsports Team is the only team to ever win a full sprint car feature at Big Diamond with Fred Rahmer and Greg Hodnett piloting the team's red 12 cars to victory. In fact Rahmer's win came in a tight battle with Billy Pauch on the old 1/3rd mile oval which Hodnett's came last season on the current 3/8th-mile track. A strong field of card is expected to try to break that streak but the most recent driver of the Apple cars, Tyler Walker of California, might just be on hand to extend it. With an open date on the Monday prior to the Big Diamond event and another two days after Big Diamond's race, a large field of cars is expected for the entire Speedweek series. Among the possible entries in addition to Walker, Kauffman and Hestor are former Big Diamond modified champion Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease, Don Kreitz, Jr., Dave Ely, Len Thompson, Todd Shaffer, Australian Skip Jackson, New Jersey stars Billy Pauch, P. J. Chesson and James Chesson, and many more. Pennsylvania Speedweek opens at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown with the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race on Saturday, June 24. Next it is on to Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville on Sunday night, June 25. Diamond's date is June 27 as the boys travel to the wide open, 3/8 mile oval in Forestville just northwest of Minersville. Wednesday the travel to Mechanicsburg for a show at Silver Spring Speedway in Mechanicsburg, an off night and then at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday. The series then winds up on three successive nights at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove and Susquehanna Speedway in Newberrytown. Gates open for the Tuesday Big Diamond event at 5pm with warm-ups starting at 7pm and time trials at 7:30pm.
