Lancaster, PA - March 17 - Big Diamond Raceway has committed to having Keystone Auto Racing Speedways (KARS) sanction the 358 Sprint Car races scheduled at the track during the 2002 racing season,
The first of two dates has been firmed-up, as originally scheduled for the 358 Sprints, on Father's Day, Sunday, June 16. The second date is tentative but has been proposed to be moved from the proposed dates of July 28 or August 4 on the track schedule to Sunday, August 18. Both dates call for the NASCAR Sportsman Stocks and the NASCAR Roadrunners to be on the racing cards along with the KARS 358s.
"KARS is taking very positive steps to permit competitors running under the Selinsgrove, Lincoln and Williams Grove 358 Sprint rules to compete with them," commented Big Diamond race director, Jeff Gromis. "This should guarantee a solid field of cars with all being on a fairly even playing field. We are in the process of signing contracts now but the track is committed to working with KARS on any and all 358 Sprint dates at this time."
In the only previous appearance of the KARS Sprints at Big Diamond, Jimmy Stitzel of Blandon, PA took the feature win. But Stitzel has not recently been running with the 358 Sprints.
Among drivers now running with the 358 Sprints, with substantial past Big Diamond experience, are 2001Big Diamond modified driver, Ryan Moyer of Port Clinton, PA and past track late model champion and the winner of the 2001 super sportsman feature at the track, Keith Prutzman of Hamburg, PA.
