O'Reilly ASCS ready for New Mexico swing.
TULSA, Okla. (June 30, 2003) - The top guns of the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers are set for a pair of New Mexico events. The series takes to Aztec Speedway's 1/3-mile semi-banked clay oval on Thursday night, July 3, before moving on to Duke City Raceway in Albuquerque on Saturday night, July 5.
The battle for the O'Reilly ASCS National championship is an intense one, with Darren Stewart of Bixby, OK, and Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, tied for the point lead entering the pair of events.
2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, is just 14 points back in third, with Hooks, TX, hotshoe Gary Wright closing the gap on the leaders on the strength of three wins in a row and seven overall through the first 21 events, sitting just 48 points out of the lead.
With five triumphs in ten events, Randi Miller of Rapid City, SD, leads the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region forces into the weekend. Defending Rocky Mountain Region champion Mike Dreiling of Highlands Ranch, CO, fresh off a victory in the ASCS vs. NCRA Sprint Challenge in Colorado this past weekend, is second in points, with Eric Miller, Jace Pennetta and Jake Pierson rounding out the current top five.
Other top drivers expected for both events include 17 year-old Cody Branchcomb of Sapulpa, OK, last year's ASCS National Rookie of the Year who is currently ranked fifth in ASCS National points, along with Toby Brown, Jason Martin, Rocky Mountain Region shoes Mason Hill and Geoff Dodge, as well as Rickey Hood, Bud Goodwin and many more.
Approximately 30 cars are expected for each night of racing action.
The 2003 O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers features nearly 50 nights of racing at 25 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Including the Regional events throughout the Gulf South, Sooner and Rocky Mountain Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will present close to 100 nights of racing at nearly 50 different tracks in fourteen states.
Aztec (NM) Speedway is located 1.2 miles south of US 550 on SR 544, then 0.2 miles east on Legion. Racing is set to get under way at 7:00 p.m. For additional information, contact the track at (505) 334-2023.
