Granby track Champion will get a cool $15.000
Track promoter Bob Gatien announced on behalf of a new agreement with Michel Rondeau from Carquest auto parts that the 2002 track champion will collect a record $15.000 for his effort. No other speedway in Quebec ever offered such an amount.
The track champion will in effect receive a check of $10.000 from Carquest auto parts, Plus an additionnal gold ring at a value of $2500.00 being given since 1992 from Normand Déziel of Granby. Sunoco racing fuel will also add their $2000.00 for such an accomplishment.
Just a reminder that Track Champion Réal Lafrance won his second straight track tittle by the narrowest possible margin of just a single point. With this new twist for the title Lafrance will sure shoot for his third straight title, But we also have to keep in mind that Claude Brouillard who lost that title last year will comeback loaded for bear and try unseat Lafrance for his first ever track title at the eastern township speedplant.
So far from this announcement Luke Plante the crafty veteran from Sorel Quebec is making his way back into action and has team up with CMB ( Claude Marcoux ) racing team for an all out assault on the title chase. Steve Poirier from St-Mathieu de beloeil will be back with Marc Nadeau for the beginning of the season they have bought a new Teo race car from Production JR and will have a new powerplant from AMB Atelier Mécanique Bouffard here in Granby.
The 2002 schedule will be publish on our website (www.autodrome-granby.qc.ca) in early January . New rules and update will also be post. If everything goes according to plan opening night will be on May 10 with action every Friday night until August 30th. Two mid-week shows are already inked on our schedule the Chagnon 100 part of the Advance 358 super dirt series will make their way on Monday June 24. And also a special Canadian confrontation ADL Tabacco on Tuesday July 16
Also on the agenda will be the URC in July and the ESS in June and August. We just hope that mother nature will be kind in 2002 because both ESS visits we're rained out last season.
