Huge Weekend of Action Looms for O'Reilly ASCoT
TULSA, Okla. (May 21, 2007) -- Fresh off the series first stop in New York for Black Rock Speedway's Bully Hill Nationals, the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series will wrap up its East Coast Swing with one of the biggest three-night sets of racing for the 2007 season beginning on Thursday night.
Thursday, the series invades Posse territory for the first time with a stop at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, PA. Then on Friday and Saturday, it's off to Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway near Saluda for the inaugural East Coast Nationals.
The ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region and ASCS Patriots will join the National forces for all three nights of action, while the ASCS Southern Tour will join in on the $6,000 to win East Coast Nationals double at Virginia Motor Speedway.
The O'Reilly ASCoT National shoes fared well in the opening two nights of the East Coast Swing by taking four of the top five positions in both nights of New York action. But Ontario, New York's Chuck Hebing proved there is plenty of hope for the Local and Regional racers when he raced to victory lane in his first career ASCS National Tour feature start on Friday before settling for eighth on Saturday.
O'Reilly ASCoT reps making the entire East Coast Swing include the fearsome five of Gary Wright (Hooks, TX), Wayne Johnson (Oklahoma City, OK), Jason Johnson (Eunice, LA), Travis Rilat (Forney, TX) and Darren Stewart (Bixby, OK) along with Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders Foster Landon (Collinsville, OK), Andy Shouse (Oklahoma City, OK) and Chris Schmelzle (Victoria, BC).
Also making the entire swing is Florida ace Kenny Adams, a native of the central Pennsylvania area, and son Bryn Gohn.
A number of the top northeast shoes and Southern Tour aces are expected for the weekend as well, including New York's Justin Barger, who charged from 18th to post his first career top-five finish in ASCS National Tour action on Saturday night, Pennsylvania's Trevor Lewis, current ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region point leader George Suprick and current ASCS Southern Tour point leader Johnny Bridges.
On the National scene, Gary Wright closed in on the series record of 16 consecutive top-five finishes with runs of third and fourth at Black Rock Speedway to extend his current streak to 14 in a row.
Wright also maintained a point lead of 97 markers over Wayne Johnson entering this weekend, with Jason Johnson just another 19 points back. After falling behind Stewart in Friday's prelim, Rilat reclaimed fourth in points with a Bully Hill win coupled with rear-end woes that sent Stewart pitside early on Saturday.
A handful of the O'Reilly ASCoT aces tuned up for Thursday's event at Susquehanna Speedway Park by taking in Sunday night's Mid-Atlantic Local event atop the 4/10-mile clay oval. And in his first visit to the track, Wayne Johnson beat Rilat and Landon to the line, with Shouse finishing fifth and Schmelzle in seventh.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
