Rilat Leads O'Reilly ASCoT into Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals
TULSA, Okla. (March 13, 2006) -- Forney, TX, hotshoe Travis Rilat leads a tightly-packed group of O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour championship contenders into this weekend's 33rd Annual Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals in Mesquite, TX.
This weekend's Devil's Bowl double, which is expected to attract well over 50 entries from throughout the country, is set for Friday and Saturday night, with both cards getting under way at 8:00 p.m.
In addition to the series championship contenders, a number of other top drivers including World of Outlaws racer Daryn Pittman, Louisiana's Jason Johnson, Aaron Berryhill and Brian Brown are expected for the weekend's racing action.
With five O'Reilly ASCoT events in the books, a mere 45 points separates the top six drivers. Rilat, the 2003 series champion, holds a razor-thin six point lead over two-time and defending series champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX. Rilat posted a pair of top-five finishes in this past weekend's action at Baton Rouge Raceway and Houston Raceway Park to move atop the standings.
Rookie of the Year candidate Nick Smith of Broken Arrow, OK, is third in points, just seven points out of the lead, with Bixby, OK, racer Darren Stewart in fourth. Another pair of rookie candidates, Tim Montgomery of Fredericktown, MO, and Baton Rouge winner Jesse Hockett of Warsaw, MO, are fifth and sixth.
The balance of the current top ten includes 2001 series champion Zach Chappell (Talala, OK), Jerrod Hull (Sikeston, MO), Houston Raceway Park winner Sean McClelland (Collinsville, OK) and Mike Chadd (Lincoln, NE).
Other championship contenders include Jan Howard (Byhalia, MS), Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD), Tony Bruce, Jr. (Liberal, KS), Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX), Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI), 13-year-old Trey Robb (Newcastle, OK), Joey Montgomery (Fredericktown, MO), Sean Walden (Bentonville, AR), Abe Sherwood (Drumright, OK), Doc Sloan (Imperial, MO) and Cody Branchcomb (Sapulpa, OK).
Following this weekend's Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals, the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour move on to Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway on March 24-25.
