O'Reilly ASCoT Ready for New York Sprint Nationals This Weekend!
TULSA, Okla. (May 14, 2007) -- The O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series is ready for a history making event this weekend, as the series ventures into the State of New York for the first time for the Ninth Annual Bully Hill Vineyards New York Sprint Nationals presented by S.P. Wilson and Budweiser at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee.
Black Rock's Bully Hill Nationals, which will be contested on Friday and Saturday after a Thursday night practice session, kicks off a five-race swing through the Northeast with ensuing events at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, PA, on May 24 and then Virginia Motor Speedway's East Coast Nationals on May 25-26.
The stars of the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour will be joined in this weekend's action at Black Rock Speedway by the New York-based ASCS Patriots and the central Pennsylvania-based ASCS Mid-Atlantic along with a host of other top drivers throughout the northeastern portion of the country as well as Canada.
Leading the O'Reilly ASCoT charge is three-time and reigning series champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX. At the quarter-mark of the 2007 season, "The Texan" has amassed a 99-point lead as he chases down the $50,000 series championship.
Wright has built his lead on the strength of six feature wins in twelve events, including a sweep of this past weekend's action in Oklahoma and Texas. Wright carries a streak of twelve consecutive top-five finishes into the New York double, just four short of the record of 16 straight top-fives that he established in 2005.
Chasing Wright to New York is the duo of Johnson & Johnson along with Rilat and Stewart, with just 53 points separating those four drivers.JOklahoma City's Wayne Johnson, the 2000 ASCS National champion, currently holds the runner-up slot on the strength of a pair of wins, while 2006 National Driver of the Year Jason Johnson of Eunice, LA, is just 21 points behind Wayne Johnson entering the weekend.
From Forney, TX, 2003 ASCS National champion Travis Rilat enters the weekend ranked fourth, just a mere six points ahead of Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart, the driver who claimed ASCS National Tour runner-up honors in 2005.
Also making the trip to the Northeast will be a trio of Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders, including Foster Landon of Collinsville, OK, Oklahoma City's Andy Shouse and Chris Schmelzle of Victoria, BC Canada.JLandon currently holds a 55-point edge over Shouse in the Rookie race.
Ontario, New York's Chuck Hebing, a winner of three career features at Black Rock, leads the ASCS Patriots into the event as the reigning series champion and current point leader. Other top ASCS Patriot contenders include Bryan Howland, Jason Barney, Jeff Cook, Rick Wilson, Jared Zimbardi, Josh Weller Geoff Quackenbush and Don Adamczyk.
Leading the way for the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region forces is two-time Bully Hill Nationals winner George Suprick of Clarks Summit, PA. Other top Mid-Atlantic contenders expected for the weekend include Tim Hogue, Coleman Gulick, Pat Cannon, Dave Ely and Justin Barger.
Florida's Kenny Adams, with nearly 200 career feature wins, and son Bryn Gohn will vie for victory honors over the weekend as well.
Also expected for the blockbuster event are a number of the top Empire Super Sprints contenders, including two-time champion Lance Yonge and defending series champion Alain Bergeron.
Curt Michael of Ocean View, DE, is the defending Bully Hill Vineyards New York Sprint Nationals champion.

O'Reilly ASCoT Black Rock Speedway History:
It's new territory for the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour with the series first venture into New York for Black Rock Speedway's Bull Hill Vineyards Sprint Car Nationals. New York will become the 20th different state the ASCS National Tour has competed in.
Black Rock Speedway will be the second of eleven new tracks the series is slated to visit this year. Gary Wright was victorious in last month's first-time visit to Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. It was the 17th time Wright has reached victory lane in the series' first visit to a track.
Last year, Wright was shut out in a handful of first outings at new venues. Nick Smith scored a pair of wins in the series first visits to Poplar Bluff and Virginia Motor Speedway, with Jason Johnson and Pennsylvania shoe Dave Ely also victorious at new sites.
There will be plenty of local and Regional talent to take on the traveling ASCoT troops including the likes of past ASCS Patriot champions Chuck Hebing, Bryan Howland and George Suprick along with a plethora of Patriot and Mid-Atlantic Region contenders.
The O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series is currently slated for 46 nights of racing action at 24 different tracks throughout 16 different states, with more than $1,000,000 in purse money and point fund to be distributed during the 2007 season.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
