O'Reilly ASCoT Ready for Baton Rouge & HRP
TULSA, Okla. (March 6, 2006) -- The engines of ASCoT fire back to life this weekend as the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour take to Baton Rouge Raceway on Friday night before moving on to Houston Raceway Park on Saturday night for the Leading Edge Lubricants Challenge.
With more than 40 of the nation's top drivers expected for both nights of action, it marks the series only stops of the year at both Baton Rouge and Houston. It is the series first stop atop Baton Rouge Raceway's semi-banked, 0x00bc-mile clay oval, while Saturday's event at Houston Raceway Park is the first ASCS National Tour event atop the high-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval since June of 2000.
Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, leads a contingent of approximately 20 drivers that are expected to vie for championship honors in 2006. Wright, the two-time and defending series champion, is currently just ranked tenth in points after finishes of sixth, 24th and tenth in the three-night season opener at Tampa's East Bay Raceway Park.
Wright enters the weekend trailing championship contenders Tim Montgomery (Fredericktown, MO), Nick Smith (Broken Arrow, OK), Travis Rilat (Forney, TX) and Darren Stewart (Bixby, OK).
Other top drivers expected for the weekend include two-time Sprints on Dirt champion Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI), two-time Knoxville Raceway champion Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD), 2005 ASCS Most Improved Driver Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX), 2005 ASCS Rookie of the Year Tony Bruce, Jr. (Liberal, KS), defending ASCS Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland (Collinsville, OK), Jesse Hockett (Warsaw, MO), Jerrod Hull (Sikeston, MO), three-time Wissota champion Chuck Swenson (Watertown, SD), Mike Chadd (Lincoln, NE), Abe Sherwood (Drumright, OK), Jan Howard (Byhalia, MS), Cody Branchcomb (Sapulpa, OK), 13-year-old Trey Robb (Newcastle, OK) and Jason Johnson (Eunice, LA).
Friday's Louisiana Shootout at Baton Rouge Raceway is slated to get under way at 8:00 p.m., with gates opening at 5:00 p.m.Saturday's Leading Edge Lubricants Challenge at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX, goes green at 7:00 p.m., with pit gates opening at 3:00 p.m.
The Schoenfeld 112535 muffler must be in use at Baton Rouge Raceway, while mufflers are not required at Houston Raceway Park.
Baton Rouge Raceway is located off I-110 Exit 6, then one mile east on Louisiana SR 408, then 7.1 miles north on SR 67, then 0.4 mile west. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., with racing slated to go green at 8:00 p.m.
Houston Raceway Park is located in Baytown, TX, east of Houston on I-10 to Exit 798, then three miles south on SR 146, then 0.8 mile southeast on FM 1405, then 1.5 miles northeast on FM 565.
Tickets for the Baton Rouge Raceway event and Houston Raceway Park's Leading Edge Lubricants Challenge are just $20 per event for adults, with children ages 6-12 just $10 per event. Children under six years of age are admitted free.
