Another O'Reilly ASCS National Record within Wright's Reach
TULSA, Okla. (April 25, 2006) -- The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour record books are already dotted with the name "Gary Wright", with most career feature wins, top-fives, top-tens, most consecutive wins and most consecutive top-fives among the marks Wright has established since the series inception in 1992.
Wright can add another entry to the record books this weekend, as the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour takes to Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO, on Friday night before moving on to Little Rock's I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.
Wright can tie an existing mark held by Zach Chappell on Friday night at Poplar Bluff Speedway, then set a new standard on Saturday night at I-30 Speedway.
Wright enters the weekend with a streak of 100 consecutive O'Reilly ASCS National Tour feature starts, just one start short of Zach Chappell's existing record of 101 consecutive feature starts.
Chappell started 101 consecutive features, with the streak beginning on June 21, 2002, and not ending until he missed an event last April due to ARCA commitments.
Wright has started every ASCS National Tour feature event since June 14, 2003, last missing a feature event the previous night during Knoxville 360 Nationals preliminary action. Over that span of 100 consecutive feature starts, Wright has accumulated 34 feature wins, 75 top-fives and 89 top-tens.
This season, Wright has finished among the top ten in six of seven O'Reilly ASCoT feature events, with four top-five runs. And despite being shut out of victory lane in ASCS National action thus far in 2006, Wright still sits atop the point charts with a slim eleven-point lead over Nick Smith.
The balance of the current top ten includes Travis Rilat, Jesse Hockett, Zach Chappell, Tim Montgomery, Darren Stewart, Jerrod Hull, Jason Johnson and Sean McClelland.
Both nights of racing are slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m.
