Darren Stewart Leads Tight O'Reilly ASCS Points Race into Arkansas Weekend

TULSA, Okla. (June 16, 2003) - Only 80 points separate the top four drivers in the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers points race as the series is set for an Arkansas double this weekend. Darren Stewart leads the way into the weekend, as North Central Arkansas Speedway in Yellville, AR, host the series on Friday night, before moving on to Little Rock's I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.

Hailing from Bixby, OK, Stewart is gunning for not only Brodix ASCS Rookie of the Year honors, but championship honors as well. Stewart has notched two feature victories through the opening 17 O'Reilly ASCS National events in 2003 aboard the Ostrich-powered Sparks Construction Avenger, posting 15 top-ten finishes to establish a 46-point advantage over Travis Rilat.

>From Texas City, TX, Rilat, recently voted the nation's top 360 Sprint Car driver, has posted three victories this season in ASCS National competition aboard the F&J Construction/Archer Motorsports Eagle.

2001 ASCS National Champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, is just 62 points out of the lead (and 16 behind Rilat), entering the weekend, while Hooks, TX, veteran hotshoe Gary Wright has been making up ground in recent weeks, posting four triumphs in the process of moving within 80 points of Stewart.

Other top contenders expected for the weekend include Cody Branchcomb, last year's ASCS Brodix Rookie of the Year who is currently ranked fifth in ASCS National points, Toby Brown, A.G. Rains and Nick Smith.

Three-time ASCS National champion Tim Crawley and Pete Butler, both of whom have notched three wins in weekly action at I-30 Speedway this season, are expected along with a number of other top I-30 Speedway regular competitors.

Friday's racing action at North Central Arkansas Speedway gets under way at 8:00 p.m. North Central Arkansas Speedway is located two miles east of State Road 14 in Yellville on US 62. For additional information, contact the track at (870) 449-5277.

The 2003 O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers features approximately 50 nights of racing at 25 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Including the Regional events throughout the Gulf South, Sooner and Rocky Mountain Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will present close to 100 nights of racing at nearly 50 different tracks in fourteen states.
