BARBERVILLE, FL - Frankie Kerr scored one for the All Star regulars, breaking a three-race Central Pennsylvania dominance in the All Star sprint 30-lap feature Sunday night at Volusia Speedway Park. Kerr’s familiar orange and blue 23s, owned by Stan Shoff, was powered by a Kistler-Chevrolet engine and was wrenched by Bill Dougherty. Kerr outran Billy Pauch and Lance Dewease to earn a $5,000 payday. "We gambled and put on a hard Hoosier," Kerr revealed afterward, explaining his wire-to-wire run. He also thanked owner Stan Shoff for their tenth season together, one of the longest stints in sprint car racing today. Kerr started on the ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment Hot Seat pole position by virtue of the week long Volusia points six car inversion, with Dewease second in Walt Dyer’s Brickmobile Eagle, followed by Danny Lasoski’s Chris Black Eagle, Pauch’s Zemco Headers Maxim and Greg Hodnett’s Apple Motorsports Maxim. Kerr snared the opening lead, pulling away from Dewease and Pauch. Kerr maneuvered his way through lapped traffic on lap nine, but passing the slower cars slowed his progress and allowed Dewease to close in on Kerr. Pauch also moved in on the runner-up, and with a dozen laps in the scorebook, Pauch was able to get by Dewease for second as Kerr still led the pack. With five laps remaining, the order was Kerr, Pauch, Dewease, Saldana, Hodnett and Dale Blaney and Kerr won easily when the checkered flew after completing 15 miles. Pauch was second, followed by Dewease and Saldana. Blaney took Hodnett near the end for fifth. Lasoski finished seventh, earning the "Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven" award, just ahead of Terry McCarl, Jamie Chesson and Kenny Jacobs, aboard Howie Gleason’s Maxim. The United Expressline heat fell to Blaney, the Southwest Expressline heat to Saldana, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Jeff Shepard and the United Specialties heat went to McCarl.
