HARTFORD, OH - Five races, five winners! Ed Lynch, Jr. passed leader Todd Shaffer to win $5,000 Thursday night at Sharon Speedway in the 18th annual All Star sprint Ohio Speedweek 30-lap feature. The win was the first Ohio Speedweek victory of Lynch's career. "You never know who is going to win an All Star race, and we proved that tonight," Lynch stated from victory lane. Lynch was in victory lane with a bald right rear Hoosier tire as the top three finishers all used Hoosiers. "I have to thank Hoosier, they talked me into this tire, I was going to run a softer one and that would not have worked. They picked the right tire." Shaffer started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with Jerrod Hull alongside him and Kenny Jacobs and Greg Wilson in row two. Lynch started fifth in his family owned Kistler-Chevrolet powered J&J with Steve Suever starting sixth. Hull took the initial lead over Wilson and Shaffer, with Shaffer pressuring Wilson for second for four laps until he got by for second. The leaders were nose to tail on lap six and Shaffer went low in four to grab the lead over Hull. Lap 11 saw the only caution flag fly when third place Jacobs stopped with a flat left rear tire. He was able to restart on the tail of the field. Shaffer led over Hull on the restart, with Lynch passing Wilson for third on lap 13. He began reeling in Hull and Shaffer extended his advantage in the high groove. Lynch and Hull were side-by-side on lap 16, with Lynch grabbing the runner-up spot on lap 17. Lynch moved down to the rubber laden low groove of the half-mile and began charging toward the front, erasing Shaffer's lead. Lap 21 saw the lead duo side by side, with Lynch ducking under Shaffer's Gary and Patty Beam owned machine to lead lap 22. Now heavy lapped traffic loomed ahead. Hull, in third, began closing on Shaffer also. The leaders were nose to tail in a gaggle of lapped cars on lap 29. There was no way to pass, so the top trio finished in the order of Lynch, Shaffer and Hull. "My car was perfect," Shaffer recalled of second. "It was just driver error. I didn't realize the track had taken rubber like it did and Ed got by me on the bottom and then I saw how fast it was on the bottom. We got in lapped traffic at the end and I got a shot at him but he took a chance and got through." Hull said of third, "Lapped traffic helped us to reel in the leaders, but there were so many of them it didn't give us a chance to do any passing." Hull's Guy Webb team constructed a new car Thursday morning, and it worked to perfection. Chad Kemenah charged up from 12th to finish fourth with Jimmy Hawley fifth ahead of Wilson. Byron Reed finished seventh after starting ninth, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award and the $100 TW Metals nightly cash bonus. Todd Gracey, Kevin Huntley and Danny Smith completed the top 10. The show started late as rain hit after 23 cars had taken time, and time trials were completely restarted at 10:15 p.m. The heats went to Phil Gressman, Danny Smith, Jimmy Hawley and Jacobs. Steve Suever won the Georgia Marketing & Promotions B Main. Lynch also captured the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash. Suever was the top qualifier over the 43 cars on hand. John Braymer captured the big block modified main over Rex King and Lou Blaney.
