HARTFORD, OH -- Chad Kemenah made a late race charge past leader Mark Smith to record the win Friday night at Sharon Speedway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap A main feature. But the real story was early leader Randy Hannagan. Hannagan held a comfortable lead on lap 12, but while circling around under caution, track officials noticed Hannagan's muffler was missing. Hannagan was black flagged, handing the lead to Smith. Smith led until there were only two laps remaining when Kemenah drove under him for his sixth win of the year.
"This win goes out to my engine builder Paul Kistler," Kemenah said in victory lane, standing beside the Harble Motorsports No. 15k. "A couple of weeks ago he asked me if I'd run a Mopar. So tonight it was kind of a little experiment deal for us and it turned out great. My crew and my brother did a great job setting this thing up."
Randy Hannagan and Blaney were on the front row for the start, with Brock Mayes and Kemenah in row two. Hannagan rocketed out into the lead ahead of Blaney with Smith getting past Blaney for second on the second lap. Hannagan ran the high groove early, with Smith running low. Hannagan held a two car length lead getting through lapped traffic, and then a caution flew on lap eight when Blaney stopped just off turn two. Hannagan kept the lead over Smith and began pulling away from the field with fourth starter Kemenah assuming third place. When the yellow came out on lap 12 after Rob Chaney bumped the fence, Hannagan's missing muffler was noticed and he was black flagged, handing the lead to Smith.
Smith looked strong through the mid stages of the race in the Zemco No. 1, with Kemenah chasing him in second.
Meanwhile, Greg Wilson, who started tenth, was now up to third behind Brock Mayes. Wilson took third on lap 17 as Kemenah slowly began reeling in the leader.
By lap 22 the leaders were once again in heavy lapped traffic. Smith went to the low groove several times with Kemenah running the cushion. Lap 27 saw Kemenah go high off turn four, but he could not make the pass stick. The next circuit he dove low in turns three and four to move under Smith and into the lead. Smith came right back with a slide job in turns one and two, but Kemenah had more horsepower and kept the lead the rest of the way.
"Chad gave me a run on the bottom and did a little slider," Smith recalled. "I was losing drive off the corners around the top but we had to run somewhere, but it probably wasn't the right thing. It's the second time I've been here and the last time I crashed her in the third turn fence so we were pretty good tonight."
Wilson ended up third in the Jack Elden No. 22, with Stevie Smith fourth and Mayes fifth. They were followed by Danny Smith, Ryan Coniam, Blaney, Jeremy Campbell and Rod George.
The Crown Battery heat fell to Bob Bennett, the B&B Products heat went to Scott Bonnell, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Barry Ruble and the TP Wings heat fell to Kenny Jacobs. The University of Northwestern Ohio B Main was won by Greg Wilson and Dale Blaney captured the Haulmark Dash. Mark Smith was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier. Jamie Martin took a nasty barrel roll in the first heat, destroying his car. He was shaken up but otherwise uninjured.
