November All Star Sprints At East Bay Cancelled
GIBSONTON, FL - Stanley Kolan, promoter of East Bay Raceway in Tampa, announced today that he is canceling the Fall Nationals for the All Star sprints that were scheduled for November 1-2-3, 2001. Due to many race fans' reluctance to travel at this time, requests for ticket refunds have exceeded purchases in the past several weeks at East Bay. Under the circumstances, it is not financially feasible to hold such a big-paying show at this time. Full refunds will be given to anyone who has already bought their tickets.
The East Bay Nationals have always depended on travelers from "up north" to support the large purses being paid. Despite the nation trying to get back to normal, travel to Florida has been hurt severely, probably due to an anthrax death and terrorist training activity in the state. Racing is not the only venue affected, with airlines canceling many flights, hotels practically giving rooms away, and theme parks laying off large numbers of people.
The All Stars understand that these unusual circumstances affected Kolan's decision and it is everyone's hope that the world situation will have settled down in time for the February Winternationals and that fans will feel more comfortable traveling. Kolan has made many improvements and raised purses at East Bay since he took over the track three years ago, and plans to continue doing so. The 2002 All Star Speedweek dates are February 13-16 at East Bay and February 7-10 at Volusia Speedway Park.
