ALLENTOWN, OH - Phil Gressman learned his trade on the banks of Limaland Motorsports Park in the 360 sprint ranks. He returned to his winning ways there Friday night in the 18th annual All Star sprint Ohio Speedweek 30-lap feature. For his first career All Star win, Gressman earned $6,000. The win was also worth an additional $100 from TW Metals for their nightly cash bonus as he became the sixth different Speedweek winner in six events. Gressman drove Dwight Reidling's Metal Pro Gaerte-Chevrolet powered Maxim aboard Goodyear Tires. "This place has treated me good," Gressman said from victory lane. "After I came home from Australia this winter, I didn't have a ride and Dwight called me and we put together things from there." He also thanked his crew for their hard work all week long. Kelly Kinser, after spinning out on lap one and being involved in a crash on lap six which damaged his front wing and put him on the tail of the field, used his usual inside groove to nip Kenny Jacobs by a bumper for second place in the Kinser Timber No. 4K. "I worked my butt off tonight," Kinser exclaimed. "I had to go to the tail twice. I really almost pulled in, I thought no way could I get through there. We just stuck with it. I don't know how we did it but we did. Everybody slowed up with about five to go, and if it had been a few more laps I believe we would have won it." Mark Keegan started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with Chad Kemenah alongside. Keegan led over third starter Rob Chaney and Kemenah when the green came out. Kelly Kinser spun out, slowing the action with a lap in the books. Keegan kept the lead on the restart, through another caution, and then Chaney grabbed the number one spot with a high backstretch move on lap six. After Bob Teeple turned on his side, the first attempt at a restart saw runner-up Keegan hit the restart cone, sending him to the rear, then Gressman put a nice slide job on Chaney to grab the lead on this restart with Chaney second and Kemenah third and eighth starter Jerrod Hull fourth, moving up on the inside groove. Hull picked off Kemenah, then Chaney and was running second when disaster struck. Jim Nier slowed in front of the leader, Gressman. Gressman glanced off the side of Nier's machine and Hull could not avoid Gressman, and hit him and spun into the infield. Gressman kept moving and retained the lead as the caution flew for Hull at this, the halfway mark of the race. Gressman led again over Chaney under green and another yellow came out a lap 20 for Chaney who jumped the backstretch cushion and spun out of second place. Due to excessive caution laps, the field was red flagged for fuel with the lineup Gressman, Kenny Jacobs and Kemenah. Kemenah dove low when the green came out and got alongside Jacobs, but did not have enough momentum to gain second place. Jacobs rode extra high, going above the cushion, making his own groove to try and pass Gressman. With five to go, Gressman jumped the cushion a bit in turn four, allowing Jacobs to close right to his rear bumper. As the leaders entered lapped traffic, Gressman got by the backmarkers as Kinser charged under Jacobs for second at the finish. Kemenah held on for fourth in Jim Harble's Gambler, with Kevin Huntley a steady fifth and All Star points leader Rodney Duncan sixth. Jason Statler finished seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award in his best drive of the week. Paul Weaver started 12th and finished eighth ahead of 23rd starting Mike Brecht and Hull, who came back from his earlier spin. The heats went to Kinser, Gressman, Greg Wilson and Todd Gracey. Rob Chaney won the Georgia Marketing & Promotions B Main. Rodney Duncan captured the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash. Jimmy Hawley got squeezed into the frontstretch wall in heat one and took a nasty flip. He went to the ambulance under his own power for a checkup. Keith Baxter and Rob Chaney were also flip victims. Before the races, Frankie Kerr and Stan Shoff sent a message announcing their retirement from racing. Frankie and Stan want to thank all the fans and fellow competitors for 11 years of support. They said, "We've had a lot of fun and it's been great 11 years, but we feel the time is right to go out as a winner." Everything is for sale, including their motorhome. Time Trials: 1.
