KNOXVILLE, IA -- Tim Shaffer and Jason Meyers visited victory lane Friday night at Knoxville Raceway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car twin 20 lap Pella Corporation Classic features. Each win was worth $3,000 on the preliminary night of the third annual $126,670 event.
In the first 10 mile contest, after the green appeared a turn one spin by Brian Brown collected Jesse Giannetto, who had nowhere to go and flipped after ramming Brown, eliminating both cars. The restart saw polesitter Johnny Herrera get a jump on Shaffer and set sail until Marty Perovich brought his car to a stop on lap five. At the time, Herrera led Shaffer, Wayne Johnson, Kenny Jacobs and Shane Stewart. Randy Hannigan had moved up at this point from 13th to sixth.
Herrera dominated again until coming to a stop on the backstretch with a broken rear end on lap nine. Shaffer assumed the lead in front of Johnson, Stewart, K. Jacobs and Dean Jacobs. Shaffer held the lead and was never seriously challenged, winning by 10 car lengths.
Shaffer stated afterward, "Johnny was faster than us but we'll take it. The Beefpacker car been going great all year, hopefully we can get it going here for the Nationals."
Johnson was second with Stewart third and K, Jacobs fourth. Madsen worked his way through the pack by passing fifteen cars and grabbing hard-charger honors in fifth. Mechanic Leonard Lee had Colin Northway dialed in as he was as high as eighth place at one point from his ninth row starting spot but he ended tenth. Terry McCarl grabbed the eighth spot with two to go behind Jeff Shepard and D. Jacobs.
In the second main on the first start Eddie Leavitt, Jr. spun and Derek Beckman tagged the wall breaking his Jacob's ladder. Jon Agan led when the green finally reappeared and Meyers pulled a slide job on the leader to grab the lead for good on the second circuit. Brooke Tatnell retired on lap four after bringing the caution out for his stop on the track. Ricky Logan moved to fourth on lap four behind Meyers, Tim Kaeding and Agan, and got third the next lap. Meyers entered lapped traffic on lap nine, but he was able to keep a nice lead running the cushion of the ultra fast half mile. He won by a straightaway after lapping up to the tenth place finisher. Kaeding crossed second ahead of Chad Kemenah, who gained third from Logan with two to go. Logan, Skip Jackson, Don Droud, Jr., Jonathan Allard and Agan were next. Dennis Moore Jr. came from the tail to tenth bringing home a hard-charger award.
Meyers stated from victory lane, "This win is well deserved by the crew they gave me a great car tonight."
"I want to thank all the fans for sticking out the rain tonight and I hope they enjoyed the show," he concluded, referring to an 11 pm start due to a rain delay.
