CHILLICOTHE, OHIO - Final preparations have been made for one of the season's biggest races, the Eleventh Annual Freedom 40 on Saturday, July 29. K-C Raceway's premier sprint car event features the All-Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars racing for a $10,000 first place prize on the fast, high banked 3/8 mile oval. This is the largest sprint payoff in Southern Ohio this season. K-C Raceway, located 12 miles south of Chillicothe on Blain Highway at Alma features some of the nations top drivers on a weekly Saturday night basis throughout the racing season. The only repeat winners in the super sprint car series during K-C's regular Saturday night shows have been Kevin Huntley of Bloomington, Indiana (three wins) and Jim Nier of Piketon, Ohio (three wins). Danny Smith of Danville, Indiana; Mark Keegan of Fremont, Ohio; Eric Hysong of Brewster, Ohio; and Rodney Duncan of Columbus, Ohio, have claimed wins at K-C in 2000. In a stunning upset before a cheering crowd, Elmore, Ohio's Alvin Roepke scored his first career All Star feature win in the 1999 Freedom 40 at K-C. Roepke passed race long leader Frankie Kerr with only five laps to go to seal the win. 1999 All-Star champion Kenny Jacobs hopes to redeem himself after leading much of the 1998 race before succumbing to a last lap pass by that year's Freedom 40 champion Kelly Kinser from Bloomington, Indiana. Like past Freedom 40 events, this years' race is expected to go right down to the wire. Other past winners of the event include Randy Kinser, Bloomington, IN; Indy 500 veteran Jack Hewitt, Troy, OH (two wins); Charlie Fisher, Columbus, OH; Joey Allen, Hanover, PA; and Butch Schroeder of Leipsic, OH. Promoter Eleanor Karshner said, "This year's event should be very exciting as a lot of out of town cars are expected, including some of the top names in open wheel racing. We've had tremendous competition this year. The great thing for the fans at K-C is that you never who will show up. We are looking forward to a great show." In fact, in the past 11 All Star races at K-C, there have been 11 different feature winners. Warm-ups begin at 6:30 and racing begins at 7:30. K-C is south of Chillicothe on SR 23, two miles out Blain Highway at Alma. For further information, please call 740-663-4141.
