MCCOOL JUNCTION, NE -- Running his backup car was no problem for Chad Kemenah. After flipping his primary machine Monday night, Kemenah drove his spare mount into victory lane Tuesday night at Junction Motor Speedway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap A main feature. The familiar blue Harble Motorsports number 15K Eagle-Kistler is sponsored by UUI, Kear's Speed Shop and Hyundai Construction and it was his fifth All Star win of the season.
The Thunder through The Plains feature started with Roger Crockett on the pole and Kemenah alongside. Danny Smith and Billy Alley were in row two with Jeremy Campbell and Randy Hannagan starting in the third row. Crockett, in the Doyle's Harley-Davidson No. 11, grabbed the initial lead over Kemenah and Alley. Crockett, racing out of Eugene, Oregon, rode the high groove around the 3/8 mile oval and entered lapped traffic on lap five, seeing his big lead cut to three car lengths in lapped traffic.
Kemenah, also using the top groove, kept closing on the leader and dove low in turn two, taking the lead going down the backstretch to officially lead lap 9. Once in the lead, Kemenah used the high groove to pull away from Crockett. Alley also got past Crockett on lap 11, but by that time Kemenah had amassed a half straightaway margin and was on cruise control, expertly picking off lapped cars.
By lap 20 the running order was Kemenah easily in command over Alley, Crockett, Smith, Hannagan, Jeremy Campbell and Dale Blaney. The only caution of the event flew on lap 22 when Geoff Dodge hit the turn two fence. This erased Kemenah's big lead, but following the restart he picked up right where he left off and pulled out to another straightaway margin over Alley.
Action was now heating up for the fourth spot, with Smith fighting off the advance of low groove runner Hannagan, who also had his hands full with Blaney right behind him.
With Kemenah motoring away in the high groove, he easily recorded his 24th career All Star win over local favorite Alley. Crockett ended up third, and Smith held off Hannagan and Blaney. Jeremy Campbell ended up seventh, ahead of Jesse Hockett, Paul May and Greg Wilson. May earned the Fisher Performance Hard Charger award, gaining five spots in the feature.
The Crown Battery heat fell to Travis Rilat, the B&B Products heat went to Cody Geldart and the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Hockett. Hannagan captured the Haulmark Dash and was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier.
The All Stars next return to action on Friday night Aug. 26 at Hartford (MI) Raceway Park.
