HARTFORD, MI -- Chad Kemenah picked up his first win of the season Friday night at Hartford Speedway Park in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap A main feature. The win by the current All Star points leader came in convincing fashion in the Jim Harble-owned UUI, All Star Plumbing & Heating, Hyundai sponsored Kistler-powered Eagle Chassis on Hoosier Tires. He became the eighth different winner in eight All Star shows this season. Jac Haudenschild was the runnerup with a hard charging Jeremy Campbell finishing third.
Ken Mackey and Jimmy Stinson led the 24 car field to the green with Mackey grabbing the initial lead over Haudenschild and sixth starter Kemenah. A caution for Ryan Coniam flew on lap three with the running order Mackey, Haudenschild's Fisher Brothers Racing No. 75, Kemenah, Stinson, Kenny Jacobs, Dale Blaney, Brock Mayes, Danny Smith, Rob Chaney and Dean Jacobs. Stinson broke a rear end and brought out another caution as the green reappeared. He went pitside, with D. Jacobs smacking the wall hard in the Ray Pullins No. 29 just after the next restart. Jacobs was eliminated from the event.
Once the green finally reappeared, Mackey took the top spot once again, and the Michigan driver led until he got into lapped traffic on lap nine. Haudenschild ducked under Mackey for the lead on lap10, but a lapped car loomed in the leader's groove and Kemenah used the No. 63r of Barry Ruble as a pick to move past Haudenschild and into the lead a circuit later. Once on top, the three-time All Star titlist pulled away to a full straightaway advantage. With four laps remaining, Kemenah saw his huge lead evaporate when a stalled Bob Bennett brought out the final caution of the night. Kemenah had five lapped cars between himself and Haudenschild for the restart, allowing him to cruise uncontested into victory lane.
In a photo finish at the checkers, Haudenschild edged Campbell for second. Campbell started 11th and was seventh by the halfway point of the race. He came on strong the last five circuits, getting by Mackey for fourth on lap 25 and going under a fading K. Jacobs for third with two laps to go. He pulled up to Haudenschild on the last lap, but ran out of time, ending third. Eighth starter Mayes was fourth, running in the top five from lap 12 on. He got past K. Jacobs and Mackey in the last few laps to secure fourth. Mackey, a two-time Hartford track champion was fifth, followed by 10th starter Kinser. K. Jacobs held on to seventh at the finish, ahead of Dale Blaney, Chaney and 15th starter Mike Lutz.
The Crown Battery heat fell to Ryan Coniam, the B&B Products heat went to Paul May, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Ken Mackey and the TP Wings heat fell to Randy Hannagan. Danny Smith won the University of Northwestern Ohio B Main. Kemenah was also the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier over a 30 car field and won the Haulmark Dash.
