FLORENCE, KY - The state of Kentucky is known for fast race horses. Well, the man with the most horsepower under the hood Saturday night at Florence Speedway in the All Star sprint 30-lap feature was Greg Wilson. This marked the return of the All Stars to Florence after an 11 year absence and a huge crowd was on hand to see Wilson take his second win of the season.

Wilson was the last of four leaders, taking over from Chad Kemenah on lap 22 to lead the final eight circuits. Kemenah, who led the first 16 laps and lap 21, was second ahead of a hard charging Jason Johnson.

"My mechanic (Bob Hampshire) put the right tires on the racecar," an excited Wilson recalled. "And I just had to be patient and wait till they came in. Our car was just perfect." That car was a Maxim with Hampshire power and American Racer tires. His tire was a harder compound, and it heated up just in time for Wilson to make the winning pass.

"The caution flag killed us," a dejected Kemenah said of his second place finish, lamenting the cooling off of his Goodyear tires.

"We set up the car real tight," third place Johnson, the pilot of Jack Elden's No. 22, said. "At the beginning of the race the track was slick and once it got down rubber it helped us and hurt the leaders."

Mike Wagner started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole alongside Kemenah with Travis Rilat and Byron Reed in row two. Kenny Jacobs and quick qualifier Wilson made up row three. Kemenah led over Rilat, Wilson and Reed at the start. Reed was on the move and took second, passing Wilson and Rilat on lap four. Lapped traffic came into play by lap five as Kemenah led with Reed second and Rilat and Wilson battling hard for third.

Curt Trainer spun on lap 13 for the only caution of the event, erasing Kemenah's half straightaway lead over Reed. Wilson was now third with Johnson fourth after starting tenth. Reed switched to the high groove after the restart as Kemenah kept to the low groove. Reed was alongside the leader on lap 16, making a high pass for the lead in turns one and two. He was scored as the leader on lap 17 and rocketed away from Kemenah. Two laps later, Kemenah reeled in Reed, and the pair were side by on laps 19 and 20. Kemenah edged ahead to lead lap 21, but Wilson blew by low in turn four to lead lap 22 and the rest of the way.

Kemenah held on for second ahead of Johnson and seventh starter Jerrod Hull, who finally snapped a long streak of bad luck. Danny Smith was fifth ahead of Jacobs while Reed faded to finish seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award. Rilat was eighth and Rob Chaney in ninth earned the $100 TW Metals nightly cash bonus ahead of Kelly Kinser.

The K-T Equipment heat went to Wilson, the JB Enterprise Racing Products heat to Rob Chaney and the Crown Battery heat fell to Byron Reed and Hull captured the Haulmark Dash. Jerry Rice won the non-stop 25-lap late model main.
