FINDLAY, OH - Frankie Kerr led wire-to-wire in the All Star sprint 30-lap 16th annual Ohio Speedweek opening feature Sunday night at Flag City Motorsports Park. The race marked the return of Ohio Speedweek to the Findlay oval for the first time since 1995. It was Kerr’s fourth win of the season on the All Star tour in Stan Shoff’s Eagle chassis and was worth $4,000.

"It was a heck of a race," Kerr exclaimed. "I didn’t realize if anyone was there or not so I gassed it and split those lapped cars. It’s great to win at Speedweek! I’d like to thank Davey Brown Chevy motors, Pro-shocks and Eagle Chassis," he added.

"I caught up with him (Jacobs) and my right rear tire was going flat.," Saldana said of second. "So that’s why I had to slide down through the black and try sliding him. I couldn’t run up on the cushion. I could follow him but my tire was used up."

With an eight car inversion, Kerr started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with teenager Johnathan Stevens alongside. Following a pair of spins by Todd Kane and Bob Teeple, Stevens gently tipped over on his side on the third attempt to start the race. Following the red, action finally got underway with Kerr on the pole and Dean Jacobs in the outside front row slot. Kerr led the first green lap, then another yellow was thrown for fifth starting Brooke Tatnell, who spun in turn two and collected Kelly Kinser. Tatnell was eliminated in the incident with front end damage while Kinser continued.

Kerr led again when the green reappeared, with Jacobs second and Saldana getting around D. Jacobs for third following the restart. Saldana was closing fast on K. Jacobs as the leaders began lapping cars on lap 11. Kerr maintained his advantage, with Saldana still following K. Jacobs and waiting for a chance to get by.

At the midway point, Kerr was the leader, followed by K. Jacobs, Saldana, D. Jacobs, Tim Allison, Keith Kauffman and John Ivy. Lap 16 saw Saldana try a turn two slide job on K. Jacobs, but K. Jacobs rode the high groove and kept second place as Kerr’s advantage stretched to a quarter lap. Saldana tried the same move again each of the next two circuits. Then, at lap 24, Saldana’s move finally worked as he dove low in turns one and two, and drifted high in front of K. Jacobs exiting turn two, blocking the All Star points leader and taking over the runner-up slot. But Kerr’s lead was too large, so the final order was Kerr, Saldana in the Steve Mox Stealth, K. Jacobs in the Hughes Wheel and Axle J&J, with Dean Jacobs fourth in the Denny Ashworth Schnee and Kauffman fifth in the United Expressline Doemelt.

Sixth was Keegan, with Ivy seventh, Kevin Gobrecht eighth, last starting Chad Kemenah ninth and Allison tenth.

The United Expressline heat fell to Kerr, the Southwest Expressline heat to Saldana, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Kane and the United Specialties heat went to Keith Kauffman, who also won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash. The United Expressline B Main winner was Mark Keegan after Kevin Huntley was leading and ran into a stalled backmarker and flipped. Earlier, Louisiana driver Jason Johnson tagged the turn one concrete in time trials, ending his night. Both were okay.
