ROSSBURG, OH - "Eldora is one of the best tracks in the country and I love coming here," declared Craig Dollansky from victory lane in the "Two Nights Before the Big One" All Star sprint race Thursday night at Eldora Speedway. Although he led all 15 miles, the second All Star win of the season for Dollansky was not an easy one. Dollansky's Polydome crew, led by Scott Benic, put in a fresh Kriner-Chevrolet engine after the heat race, and Dollansky is still recovering from a fractured femur. He has been off crutches for the past three days, and said his knee is still a little weak. The Karavan Maxim chassis rode to victory lane aboard Hoosier Tires as he defeated All Star points leader Kenny Jacobs by five car lengths to earn $5,000. Dollansky started on the Butlerbuilt Hot seat pole with Randy Hannigan's Eagle alongside him. In row two it was Brian Ellenberger inside Chad Kemenah's Gambler, with Greg Wilson and fast qualifier Jacobs comprising row three. Dollansky took the initial lead over Ellenberger and Jacobs and started lapping the backmarkers on lap seven. Action was slowed with a dozen laps in the books when a red was dropped for Rodney Duncan, who hit the lapped machine of John Buchy in turn four and rolled his Harrison Trucking machine over on to its' side and nosed into the outside wall. Duncan, who was running 11th at the time was uninjured, but finished for the night, ending up 20th and losing the series' points lead to Jacobs by 35 points. Once action resumed, Dollansky kept the lead and built a five car length advantage over Jacobs, who took second from Ellenberger on lap 19. Jacobs was reeling in the leader and tried to make a pass with an inside move in turn one on lap 22, but Dollansky repelled the advance. The lead duo entered more lapped traffic, allowing Dollansky to move to a four length advantage. Then a red on lap 29 set up a green, white , checkered run to the finish. The stoppage was caused when Daryl Stimeling blew a right rear tire and Steve Suever had nowhere to go and flipped over Stimeling in the middle of the backstretch, his machine coming to rest in turn three. Suever was not injured. Dollansky pulled away the final two circuits, winning by five car lengths over Jacobs' Eagle chassis and third place Ellenberger. Kevin Huntley rode Denny Ashworth's machine home fourth after starting eighth, with Kemenah a steady fifth. Hannigan held on for sixth with Phil Gressman starting seventh and finishing in the same spot, earning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award. Twelfth starting Ed Lynch Jr., Jerrod Hull, up from 13th and Wilson completed the top ten. "The track was pretty wet tonight," Dollansky recalled from victory lane, "but it opened up real nice. On the reds my crew tightened up the car and I can't thank Karavan, Hoosier and Polydome enough. This Maxim is great." The three heat races went to Jacobs, Danny Smith and Lynch, Jr. with the Commercial Truck and Trailer Dash to Kemenah. Time Trials: 1. Kenny Jacobs, Jacobs/Honecker 6, 13.042; 2.
