ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 27) -- Although Eldora Speedway has been idle for two weeks, that inactivity will be corrected with a busy three-day slate featuring five divisions and as many sanctioning bodies during its annual Historical Big One festivities over the weekend of August 7 - 9.
While Sprint Cars will be featured each night, the Modified (United Midwestern Promoters) and Stock Car classes will complete the menu on Thursday night, the Late Models (American Late Model Series) on Friday night and the 360 Sprints (National Racing Alliance) on Saturday. Members of the Vintage Auto Racing Club (VARC) will be on hand each night, with a special on-track display Friday night.
Thursday's action will mark the second Eldora appearance of the season for the Haulmark All Star Circuit of Champions as they sanction the kick-off for sprints. Current All Star point leader and defending Eldora Sprint champion Chad Kemenah captured last month's All Star invasion and hopes to put a disappointing Kings Royal performance behind him to double up victories.
On Friday, the World of Outlaws (WoO) will sanction the Sprint action for the final time this year. Saturday's wrap-up (Historical Big One, HBO) will be highlighted by a whopping $100,000 payoff for the Sprint winner. As in the previous ten years, the HBO will carry no sanction, but the hefty payoff assures a quality field of entrants from the various sanctioning groups.
Eldora's competitive HBO format has produced nine different winners since its inception, with only Kinser able to duplicate wins. Donny Schatz is the defending champion.
HBO winners: 1993 Jac Haudenschild, 1994 Kenny Jacobs, 1995 Steve Kinser, 1996 Mark Kinser, 1997 Dave Blaney, 1998 Dale Blaney, 1999 Kevin Gobrecht, 2000 Steve Kinser, 2001 P.J. Chesson, 2002 Donny Schatz.
