WOODSTOCK, GA - Kenny Jacobs, in a repeat of last year’s All Star Summer Sizzler win at Dixie Speedway, captured the All Star sprint 30-lap rain-delayed feature at Dixie Sunday afternoon. The win for the All Star points leader paid $5,000 and it was his sixth win of the season in the Hughes Wheel and Axle J&J, wrenched by Barry Jackson with Kriner-Chevrolet power. Behind the winner were Joey Saldana in the Steve Mox Motorsports Stealth, with Keith Kauffman’s Warren Johnson United Expressline Doemelt third.
With four cars inverted for the start under threatening skies, Jacobs was on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with Judi Bates alongside. Sarah Fisher’s Maxim and Saldana comprised row two.
Bates took the lead in her Bates Roofing Maxim at the drop of the green with Jacobs following. On lap four, Jacobs snuck by to take command with Bates now second with Fisher third and Saldana continuing to run fourth. They ran this way until lap seven when sixth and seventh place runners Brian Smith and Frankie Kerr both spun separately, bringing out a caution and sending the pair restarting on the tail of the 21 car field.
Saldana began moving forward following the restart, picking off Fisher on lap nine for third and pressuring Bates for second as Jacobs remained out front. By lap 13 Saldana had moved into second around Bates, then another caution was unfurled for a Ricky Sutton spin on lap 14. The order was now Jacobs, Saldana, Bates, Kauffman, who took fourth from Fisher on lap 13, and Fisher. Kauffman got by Bates on the restart for third, and Bates saw her fine run end hard into the turn three concrete when her left rear wheel broke, sending her into the wall and flipping on lap 22. The red flag came out, halting the action with Bates uninjured after the wild ride.
For the restart and eight lap dash to the end, Jacobs still held the number one slot, with Saldana second, Kauffman third and Fisher fourth. Frankie Kerr got a great restart, with his momentum carrying him past Rob Chaney, Jason Johnson and Scott Jones and Fisher into fourth. Then fifth place Fisher saw her fine run evaporate with a flat right rear tire on lap 25, sending her to the pits for a quick change and back out on the tail of the field under the yellow. This moved Dean Jacobs to fifth, and that’s how the final five laps were run, with K. Jacobs winning over Saldana, Kauffman, Kerr and D. Jacobs. Rob Chaney started his Gambler in 15th and moved up nicely to finish sixth, with southern driver Mike Hudson seventh. Scott Jones finally broke a long string of bad luck to ride home eighth, with Louisiana sensation Johnson ninth and Florida ace Red Stauffer rounding out the top ten as rain began to fall with the checkered flag.
The United Expressline heat fell to K. Jacobs, the Southwest Expressline heat to Kerr and the Southwest Glass heat was won by D. Jacobs. Saldana won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash.
