ATTICA, OH - Joey Saldana was leading when rain fell, making him the winner of the All Star sprint 23-lap rain shortened Attica Ambush feature Monday night at Attica Raceway Park. The event was called complete at 9:03 p.m. Paul McMahan ended up second in Warren Johnson’s Eagle No. U2, with Kelly Kinser third in the Kinser Timber No. 4K. Saldana’s winning mount, for the second night in a row, was the Steve Mox Trucking Eagle chassis, on Goodyear tires with Charlie Fisher-Chevrolet engines. It was his eighth series win of 1999. Alvin Roepke started on the ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment Hot Seat pole position for the scheduled 40 lap contest, with Frankie Kerr outside and Hodnett and McMahan in row two. Kerr led over Roepke when the green was displayed, but sixth starter Saldana took over second on lap two, and rode the high groove around Kerr and into the lead on lap three, building a big lead as the laps wore on. Chad Kemenah went off the track on lap seven, bringing out a caution and wiping out Saldana’s straightaway lead. Kerr was second with Paul McMahan third. McMahan was side-by-side with Kerr, battling for second on lap nine, and he took over second on lap 10. Saldana stretched his lead again, but McMahan was cutting it down when the leader entered lapped traffic. A few raindrops appeared on lap 15. Now Kerr was third, and Kelly Kinser, who started 11th, passed Hodnett for fourth on lap 20. When Chad Kemenah stopped on the front stretch with mechanical problems on lap 23, rain began falling harder, bringing out a red, and calling the race complete. Kerr finished fourth, with Hodnett fifth and Kenny Jacobs sixth. Dean Jacobs finished seventh, earning the "Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven" award. Byron Reed was eighth, Jim Nier ninth and Roepke tenth. The United Expressline heat fell to Butch Schroeder, the Southwest Expressline heat went to Chad Kemenah, the Southwest Glass heat was won by Paul McMahan and the United Specialties heat went to Greg Hodnett. Alvin Roepke won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash with Joey Saldana the United Expressline B Main winner and the fast qualifier, worth $300 from Ramey Trucking. Jonathan Stevens was a heat race flip victim. Wayne Maffett, Jr. won the limited late model main over Art Ball and Mike Marteney.
