ATTICA, OH (May 12, 2000) - Kenny Jacobs held off a last lap turn four slide job by Kelly Kinser to cross the finish line first Friday night at Attica Raceway Park in the All Star sprint 40-lap feature. Jacobs and Kinser lined up nose to tail on a lap 31 restart, with Jacobs pulling away when Kinser's engine stumbled. But Kinser came right back and got beside Jacobs on the low side for the next four laps. Then Jacobs inched ahead, but Kinser reeled him in on the last lap and dove into the lowest part of turn four as hard as he could, but fell short by inches at the finish line.

"You wouldn't believe how nervous I was when I saw Kelly. If he'd (Kinser) of just slid right up in front of me, he'd of won and I couldn't have done anything about it. I was probably going to run over him and we'd have had a heck of a crash. I didn't want to get beat on the bottom like that," Jacobs recalled, standing beside his Jacobs-Honecker Chevy-powered machine in victory lane. "Goodyear had some tires that are real good for us. I can't say enough about Kriner and Eagle chassis and Barry Jackson and Aaron Hammer," he added.

Greg Wilson started on the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole with Rodney Duncan alongside. Jacobs and Frankie Kerr started in row two with Kevin Huntley and Butch Schroeder in row three. Kinser started tenth.

Following an aborted start when Chad Kemenah spun in turn one, Schroeder fell by the wayside lining up for the restart. Wilson jumped into the lead in Bob Hampshire's No. 63, running Attica's high groove, followed by Jacobs and Duncan in the Harrison Trucking Schnee.

Following a lap eight restart, Jacobs was able to pull alongside Wilson, but Wilson motored away in the high groove. Duncan kept it close in third as Kinser marched methodically through the pack and was seventh by lap 11. Jacobs discovered the high groove was faster than the middle line he was using on lap 14, and began to close on Wilson. They were one car length apart on lap 15, and Jacobs rode the high groove to the front off turn two to lead lap 16 and began pulling away in traffic.

By the half way mark, it was Jacobs over Wilson, Kinser, Duncan, John Ivy and Keegan. Kinser rode the low groove off turn two to grab second from Wilson a lap later as Jacobs stretched his lead to two-thirds of a straightaway. As Jacobs led easily, action was fast and furious for spots four through six with Ivy, Keegan and Wilson trading spots every lap.

When Jody Keegan and Jerrod Hull, who was tenth, collided on lap 31, that set the stage for the final restart. Danny Smith, who started 18th, was fourth at the time behind Jacobs, Kinser and Duncan with Keegan fifth. As Kinser tried to catch Jacobs, Keegan rode the top groove to third and stayed there with a good view of Kinser's desperate last lap try at the victory.

"We came real close tonight," Kinser reflected of second. "We could have played real dirty and took him out but I didn't do it."

Following third place Keegan were Duncan, Smith and Wilson. Ivy finished seventh, winning the Team Simpson Racing Lucky Seven award and the TW Metals $100 nightly bonus. Brian Ellenberger was eighth followed by Phil Gressman and teenager Boston Reid.

The heats went to Todd Gracey, Danny Smith, Gressman and Jason Dukes. Brian Ellenberger won the Georgia Marketing & Promotions B Main and the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash was scrubbed due to threatening weather. Schroeder's quick time of 12.002 seconds was worth $300 from Ramsey Trucking and a Weld Wheel.
