Sodus, NY - Billy White of Sandisfield, MA, was the cream of the crop when the 2000 Woodard's Concrete Products Central New York Mini Sprint Tour visited Accord (NY) Speedway on June 16, taking his first CNYMS feature win. The race was rescheduled from mid-May, when rain washed out the mini sprint season opener. This time, the weather was hot, and so was the racing.
The tight quarter mile clay oval was wet and tacky, the right ingredients for close competitive racing. White, a Whip City regular, started the feature on the pole. The race was not even a lap old when John Anderika (Pittston, PA) and Bob Scaccio (Suffern, NY) got together right behind White, pushing Anderika into the outside retaining wall, finishing him for the night. This cleared the path for Thunder Mountain regular Don Harvey (Milford, NY), who quickly took over the second spot on the restart. While the rest of the pack battled in tight quarters, White and Harvey checked out with clear track ahead. White was on the point for most of the feature, but Harvey was able to briefly take the lead late in the race. White quickly regained the front position, holding on for the checkered flag. P.J. Peworchik (Binghamton, NY) drove a strong consistent race to finish third, moving him closer in the second position in the tour points standings to points leader Tim Smythe (Malone, NY), who finished seventh in racing action. Darell Quackenbush (Vernon, NJ) finished fourth, and Bob Scaccio (Suffern, NY) rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Anderika and Jim VanSteenburg (West Shokan, NY).
In addition to the winner's purse, White took home a contingency product award from Farrell Oil (Wilton, NY) and a gift certificate from Seymour Enterprises (Malboro, MA). Greg Godek (Windsor Locks, CT) took home a cash bonus for the top finishing 750 cc machine.
The CNYMS tour will travel to Utica Rome Speedway on June 25th to tackle the ½ mile oval. For all the news and notes, driver profiles, and current standings, visit the CNYMS website at www.speedwayad.com/cnyms.
