Jerez, Saturday, November 22, 2008 - Scuderia Playteam Sarafree's two V12, 750-horsepower cars featuring the colours of international football club Galatasaray SK on one car, and the popular magic red and black colours of AC Milan on the other are ready for this weekend's final round of the Superleague Formula season.
Galatasaray SK and AS Milan both qualified on the third row for the final event of the season, a good indication that the cars are ready for the final race of the season with Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) in fifth place and Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) in sixth position.
The team had three positive practice sessions where Doornbos was fastest in the first two sessions and Pier Guidi third and fifth while the Dutch and the Italian drivers were respectively sixth and ninth in the final session. Then the morning draw placed both Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray SK) and Robert Doornbos (AC Milan) in group B for qualifying. They both went through to the quarter-final stage. At the end of the qualifying rounds the front row for the first race wen to Liverpool on pole while AS Roma will start next to it in second. Title Challenger Beijing will start from the back of the grid after spinning out during qualifying in Group A.
Alessandro Pier Guidi commented, "Everything went well. The car is handling well. I had an unexpected problem in the last turn. At this moment the mechanics are checking the data to understand what happened to the car, it's possibly a problem with the fuel pump. But we will sort the problem out before tomorrow for the race. I could have made the semi-final if the car had not had this problem. But everything goes so quickly. It just did not work out."
Robert Doornbos added, "Everything started fine in Jerez. We started well and showed we were the quickest. The car was getting better with every session. In qualifying, I did not push too hard because I wanted to save my tyres. I went to quarter final, but at the first corner I locked the wheels and lost time. I do not know why, because we made no changes on the car and then I experienced some vibrations and the car was hard to drive. This is when Porto passed me. I am sorry that it happened. But these things just happen when you are so close to each other. In any case, with the team we are preparing for two good races tomorrow."
