BOBBY D. FINISHED 9TH AND 5TH AT JARAMA
Breda/The Netherlands - The 4th weekend of the Superleague Formula championship took place under bright sunshine on the Spanish Jarama circuit near Madrid. Robert's car has been improved which showed off in free practice. On Saturday Robert Doornbos had insured himself an eleventh spot on the starting grid in the car of Brazilian football club Corinthians.
A great start of the first race sees Doornbos immediately passing 3 cars on the long straight. With the accident in Magny-Cours still in the back of his mind, he is cautious whilst braking for the first corner. A good pitstop from the Azerti team can't win Corinthians a position on the track and it finishes in ninth place.
Robert Doornbos: "I did the maximum I could during the race. I had a brake problem which was worse than during the qualifying so I was unable to attack other cars in the braking areas."
From tenth position in race 2 Doornbos can climb his way up to 4th in the ranking, but after the pitstop he is stuck behind Craig Dolby (Tottenham Hotspur) en James Walker (Liverpool). The Jarama circuit is very tight and passing is difficult and not without a risk, meaning the Corinthians car finishes in what is still a good 5th place.
Robert Doornbos: "Once again I had a good start, I immediately went from 10th to 4th place in the opening lap. But we had a problem with the downforce on the car, so the team had to quickly adjust the front wing during the pitstop. Then the engine stalled as well, but the team did a great job in restarting it. When I drove through the pitlane suddenly Dolby exited his box in front of me. I had to brake to avoid contact. The next race is on the Nurburgring in Germany, where I took a victory in the Superleague Formula 2 years ago. So I am really looking forward to returning there next weekend."
Robert has improved the set up of his car and feels he will be much stronger the remainder of the season.
