19/06/2009 - Dutch racer Dominick Muermans will line up for PSV Eindhoven in this year's Superleague Formula series, which kicks off at Magny-Cours in France on 27/28 June. PSV Commercial Director Marcel van den Bunder made the announcement at a well-attended press conference at Zolder - the Belgian circuit is hosting the second round of this year's eagerly anticipated championship in mid-July.
Muermans knows the Superleague Formule V12 single-seater well have been a regular test driver in 2008. Now he's looking forward to playing a more central role having been selected to race for the team that he supports. "It is great to drive in the Superleague Formula," he enthused. "I love driving the PSV car - it is really a good car. And I am also a PSV fan, so this is twice as special for me."
With his driver now confirmed, PSV race team manager Wim Coekelbergs is excited to be starting the new season. "The car is reliable, the team is super motivated and the goal is to be faster than last season. Our new driver Dominique is really ambitious and so are we. I think that this season will be a good season for PSV," he predicted.
As part of the build up to Superleague Formula's return to Zolder next month and to give the media a taste of the action to come, PSV and Glasgow Rangers cars were put through their paces during the press conference. "Last year there were a lot of spectators, but we had a lot of rain. Let's hope that this year the weather will be better and that the race will be just as spectacular," said Robin Webb, Superleague Formula's Competition Director.
Dominick Muermans - The Driver
Dominick Muermans, the talented newcomer made his debut recently during the Paasraces at the Zandvoort racetrack. Dominick is going to add some mileage on his tally in the prestigious Dutch Formula Renault 2.0 championship. In addition to this championship the twentythree-year old driver from Maaseik will gain experience in the strong German two liter Formula Renault championship. Muermans, who learns the trade at the renown Van Amersfoort Racing team, starts his autosport career with a clean sheet. The Limburg based driver followed his education at the American University of Londen in England last year, but temporarily stopped this study to concentrate on racing. Dominick momentarily has an absolute learning year but is very fast during qualifying already. During races he is capable to fight some close battles in the midfield and learns the international tracks very fast. Dominick is continuing his good performance and we will heart a lot of him the coming period!
