TORRANCE, Calif. (May 28, 2002) - Annually, the SCORE Baja 500 is the first grueling test of the season for desert off-road racing's best. This year will not be an exception with 35 competitors hoping to remain eligible for Toyota True Grit and
Toyota Milestone Awards after the May 31-June 2 event. As it has for the last 16 years, Toyota will present the prestigious awards to the off-road racers who finish every mile of every race in the 2002 SCORE International Off-Road Racing Series.
Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the six-race desert series. After two events, 35 racers in 15 classes remain eligible; in addition to the Baja 500, each competitor will have to complete the Henderson's Terrible 250 (July 10-14), Las Vegas Primm 300 (Sept. 13-14), and the Baja 1000 (Nov. 20-23).
Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites who complete every required mile in the six-race series, and have the largest cumulative point total in each class, split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit prize fund. Prior to the Baja 500, 10 racers remain eligible.
The Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards will be presented at the year-end SCORE awards banquet in December. The following SCORE off-road racers remain eligible for the Toyota Milestone Award (TG - denotes classes also eligible for the Toyota True Grit Award):
