Friends and partners write for the fans - tests successfully continued Today: Bernd Ostmann, editor-in-chief of auto motor & sport, Europe's biggest car magazine
Today I have some great news. The friends and partners of All German Motorsports and myself are going to write here about their views of AGM's engagement and of a German rally driver's adventures in the US Tecate Score International Off Road Racing Series. I am very pleased that one of my oldest partners and friends is first to start. It's Bernd Ostmann, editor-in-chief of "auto motor & sport", Europe's largest special interest car magazine.
Back in the USA All German Motorsports continue their testing programme in preparation for the upcoming Tecate Score San Felipe 250 (14-15 March). The biggest step was most certainly Martin Christensen's third place at the Parka Pampa 400 two weeks ago. All German Motorsports had scheduled this test race for us after we were stopped by problems with the power transmission at the opening race of this year's Score championship. Martin told me that he stopped several times during the race just to check the temperature of the components that ZF Sachs Race Engineering had modified and delivered to us in record time. All in all Martin spent about 20 minutes stopping and checking. And that was almost exactly the time gap between him and the eventual winner!
So this test at race speed was really promising. In the meantime, All German Motorsports has totally revised our race car, and we are ready to tackle the San Felipe 250. We heard that for the race the organiser picked some of the most gruelling stretches of the Baja 1000 for their event.
In two weeks time I'll be back here telling you more about how preparations at All German Motorsports are progressing.
Until then, best wishes,
Hello all you Germans!
This is where friends and partners of All German Motorsports and Armin Schwarz write about the people and their full-time engagement in this year's Tecate Score International Offroad Racing Series.
Today: Bernd Ostmann, editor-in-chief of auto motor & sport, Europe's biggest car magazine
Armin Schwarz and auto motor & sport have been partners for twenty years. First there was our support for the rally hopeful in auto motor und sport's team for young motorsport talents. Then we accompanied him in the World Rally Championship, when Armin competed as a factory driver for Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford, Skoda and Hyundai. After 2005 we partnered his programme for young rally drivers - and his wild Buggy rides in the USA.
What started as a mere business relationship has long turned into a friendship. Whenever we need a top pilot for a drivers training or a TV shooting Armin Schwarz is there for us. And at old-timer rallies he not only proves that he is quick at the limit, but that he has a huge interest in the history, too.
During his career as a rally pilot Armin Schwarz had great times, but he also had to ride out less fruitful periods. He claimed the German and the European Championships. He is the second German after Walter Rohrl to win a World Championship round.
On the other hand Armin often sat in inferior cars or was hampered by defects or accidents. Originally his plan was to finish his driver career at the end of 2005. But this was not to happen.
In America Armin now competes in exactly the sport he really loves: pure rally sport without too many rules and too many politics. When I first heard about his US adventure I saw a brief video. I was impressed by the endless wheeltravel and even more by the incredible jumps of the Buggy.
Armin started as an outsider in this tough and truly American arena. His speed, but even more his relentless way of overtaking, have earned him respect. It's high time for his first win. We keep our fingers crossed.
