AJNR/Brimtek - 2 Local Military Veterans along with their Families to Join Us this Weekend at Road America!
Hello Fans, Friends and Family,
The season is getting down to the wire this weekend as we have a double header at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Rounds 7 and 8 of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup will commence and am so glad to be back at the historic 4.1 mile road circuit.
I also have some exciting news to announce as two more local veterans will be joining me this weekend along with their families to enjoy all the action! This race weekend is run in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series which is predicted to bring tens of thousands of fans to the track.
Local Army Veteran Brad Ellingson, 41, from Madison, WI will be joining us this weekend along with his wife, Robin, and their 3 year old twin sons, Anthony and Alexander. Brad is also a local SCCA road racing competitor who just recent clinched his third SCCA championship in Formula F at the very track we'll be racing at this weekend.
Brad enlisted in the Army straight out of high school in 1987 and served for 3 years. He was part of a helicopter attack unit while his parents were part of a medical unit. When Operation Desert Storm got underway in 1991, Brad quickly re-enlisted with the medical unit so he could serve with his parents. He got in and, as he calls it, spent a family vacation with his folks in the middle east. Once he returned from his tour in the Gulf War, he took 7 years off before he re-enlisted another 4 years in an infantry division.
Michael Lischka from Watergown, WI will also be joining us this weekend along with his father, David. Michael, 25, enlisted in the United States Marine Corp for 2 years until he was injured in a training exercise before he was to be deployed to the middle east. He's almost 100% and is looking to possibly become active duty once he's fully recovered. While in the USMC, he was a fuel specialist as well as a rifleman.
Michael is currently a professional umpire for baseball and softball games at the high school and college level. While not umping, he's attending school working to obtain his bachelor's degree and, eventually, hopes to one day be an emergency response doctor. Michael is also a huge racing fan. He actually owns his own drag racing team where he pilots his 1203 cc Buell motorcycle in 12.45 seconds at 140 mph in a quarter mile. He's ecstatic and can't wait to enjoy the race weekend with us.
Michael, along with Brad and his family will have access to the track on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They will also be able to enjoy the Volkswagen hospitality tent where there is an open bar, A/C and all the food you could want in a comfortable environment. I'll also give them a tour of the technical center where they can check out the Brimtek/WWP VW Jetta TDI Cup car and sign the hood! This will be a fantastic weekend for them all.
And don't forget, if you're looking for a hassle-free way to support the Wounded Warrior Project, text "WWP" to 90999 to make a $5 donation that will be charged to your phone bill (standard text messaging rates apply).
On track action will start tomorrow bright and early at at 7:20 AM CT for our 30 minute practice session followed by qualifying for Round's 7 and 8 at 11:20 AM and 5:30 PM respectively. Then Round 7 of the TDI Cup will begin on Saturday starting at 6:15 PM with Round 8 starting at 10:10 AM on Sunday. Don't forget to tune into AJ Nealey Racing Live to catch all the action via my Ustream.tv account!
The outpouring of support has been relentless and, still to this day, it's hard to put into words how much I appreciate it! Thank you all very much for your continued patronage.
I'm looking forward to a great race weekend.
Take care and talk soon,
