AJNR/Brimtek - Veteran and VA Volunteer, Roy Thompson, along with his Son, to Join Us at Round 6 of the VW Jetta TDI Cup this Weekend
Round 6 of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup is this weekend at Autobahn Country Club just outside of Chicago, IL. It will be really nice to hop back behind my #2 Brimtek Jetta TDI Cup car after a long 5 week break from our last race at Mid-Ohio. We will be racing during the Autobahn Grand Prix which will also host a slew of racing from Trans-Am, MX-5 Cup, USF2000, Star Mazda, the Cayman Interseries and the Miller Mustang Challenge. Tons of action on hand for the fans to watch.
Joining me this weekend is Roy Thompson and his son Roy Thompson Jr. who are from Chicago, IL. Both of them will have access into the track as well as the VW hospitality tent for both Saturday and Sunday. I'll give them a tour of the technical center and have Roy sign one of the gold stars on the hood of my #2 Brimtek/WWP Jetta TDI Cup car. I'll also be giving them some AJNR swag! They should have a great time at the track this weekend.
Roy, age 49, enlisted with the Marine Corp. in 1977 and served for 6 years. In the 2nd Marine Division, he served one tour overseas in Lebanon where he was a tank crewman. When home, he was station at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He is currently a volunteer at the Jesse Brown VA Center in Chicago where he is a utility player of sorts. He brings patients at the center books and magazines to read as well as escorting patients around the facility. He's on hand for whatever the center may need him for.
Roy is also a big racing fan and enjoys watching NASCAR when at home. He also spends a lot of time with his 22 year old son who is suffering from cerebral palsy. They build model cars together and has a huge collection of them on display at the house. They are both extremely appreciative to have the opportunity to come out this weekend and it will be an honor to have them join us.
And don't forget, if you're looking for a hassle-free way to support the Wounded Warrior Project, text "WWP" to 90999 to make a $5 donation that will be charged to your phone bill (standard text messaging rates apply).
On track action will start this Saturday at 9:45 AM EDST for our 30 minute practice session followed by qualifying later that day at 5:10 PM. Then Round 6 of the TDI Cup will begin on Sunday starting at 9:50 AM. Don't forget to tune into AJ Nealey Racing Live to catch all the action via my Ustream.tv account!
The outpouring of support has been relentless and, still to this day, it's hard to put into words how much I appreciate it! Thank you all very much for your continued patronage.
I'm looking forward to a great race weekend.
Take care and talk soon,
